How to prepare for everyday science - My experience

Such a tricky subject, I must say. When I started preparation of it, I was also a tad bit confused about how to deal with it? Then I sorted out a way on my own and it worked wonders for me. I will also suggest you to do the same.

That method of preparation was solving the past 10 or 15 years CSS papers of everyday science in every aspect, be it the objective portion or the subjective. Cover each question, better cram it. After solving and preparing the past 10 years papers, come towards the syllabus, Cover the whole syllabus. Pay rapt attention to the second portion of EDS, i.e. Physics, because most of the times, the paper is comprised of physical sciences though there can be exception like CSS 2014 paper which included majority questions form the Biology potion.

Now the aforementioned method was about the subjective portion of the paper.Let’s deal with the objective portion now. The only solution I sorted out was to attempt as much MCQ’s as I can. Make it a habit to attempt 30 or 40’s MCQ’s on daily basis. In this way, at the end of 5 or 6 months, you would have learnt over thousand of MCQ’s. Do not forget to cram the objectives of past papers of EDS. I’d recommend MCQ’s book of Caravan Publishers or any book you can easily get your hands on.

Apart from these ways of preparation, if you find some free time, keep on learning about new gadgets, inventions, discoveries and physical processes. Take the help of internet in this regard. In fact, I’ll say that do not depend thoroughly on text books for the solution of the past papers. Google those questions. This will make your answers distinctive in the paper.

Being one of the most scoring subjects, it is definitely a subject to study with zeal and zest. Now, many people suggest to study the science subjects book of matric and FSc in order to clarify the concepts. Let me tell you: you do not need to be einstein in order to attempt the paper of EDS. In addition, you do not have enough time either to go through all those books of matric. If you have appeared in the CSS exam, you already know that you do not have sufficient time to write the answers in detail. Remember one thing about EDS; you need to know something about everything. I mean to say that you should know 6 or 7 fact about each topic of EDS. That is all the examiner wants from you. I reiterate: do not waste your time in doing research about only one topic or few ones.

However, you need to write one or one and a half page if the examiner wants you to write a note but that is almost only one question in the whole paper. Just like I mentioned in my previous post about EDS, focus on the solution of the past papers and then come towards syllabus. Solve MCQ's on daily basis as much as you can.

One more thing. Always draw diagrams where ever needed and possible. You will get the reward for it for sure from the paper checker. Write down headings and sub headings in a neat and clean way.

Do search the topics of syllabus on internet as well. That will make your paper distinctive from others. It can also help you in the objective portion of the paper.

It is not necessary to cram but you should certainly have the facts about every single topic on your finger tips.
