Default General Ability for CSS~2016~Let's practice

Guys, let's practice EDS~40 marks. We can come up with a good result if exercised this portion well.

1~How many pieces of 85 cm length can be cut from a rod 42.5 meters long?

2~Village X has a population of 68000, which is decreasing at the rate of 1200 per year. Village Y has a population of 42000, which is increasing at the rate of 800 per year. In how many years will the population of the two villages be equal?

3~4,8,10,20,30,32,64, what is next digit ?

4~Income of a company doubles after every one year. If the initial income was Rs.4 lakhs, what would be the income after 5 years?

5~On sports day, if 30 children were made to stand in a column, then 16 columns could be formed. if 24 children were made to stand in a column, then how many columns could be formed?

Guys, you are replying too late, if you are longer interested, do let me know I will post the answers and the solution too, will discuss it, what do you say? Also, post your answer in detailed manner so that new members who are unfamiliar with basic mathematics, could understand the solutions?

That's a great initiative --indeed. Please proceed this thread by providing comprehensive answers to the questions. Arduously hectic schedule will not allow me to join frequently; however, I will try to participate as soon as possible.

1) In a queue, Mr. X is fourteenth from the front and Mr. Y is seventeenth from the end, while Mr. Z is exactly in between Mr. X and Mr. Y. If Mr. X is ahead of Mr. Y and there are 48 persons in the queue, how many persons are there between Mr. X and Mr. Z?

2) The letters L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S and T in their order are substituted by nine integers 1 to 9 but not in that order. 4 is assigned to P. The difference between P and T is 5. The difference between N and T is 3. What is the integer assigned to N?

3) A question paper must have a question on one of the eight poets: A, B, C, D, E, F, G or H. The first four belong to the medieval period while the rest are considered modern poets. Generally, modern poets figure in the question paper in alternate years. Generally those who like H like G also; and those who like F like E also. The paper-setter does not like to ask about F as he has written a book on F, but he likes F. Last year, the paper contained a question on A. On the basis of the information given, this year’s paper is most likely to contain a question on
a) c
b) e
c) f
d) d

4) In a row ‘A’ is in the 11th position from the left and ‘B’ is in the 10th position from the right. If ‘A’ and ‘B’ interchange, then ‘A’ becomes 18th from the left. How many persons are there in the row other than ‘A’ and ‘B’?
