Semiconductor

Semiconductor is a material which lasts in between conductor and non-conductor and conducts electricity more easily than a nonconductor but less than a conductor. The example of semiconductor can be any of chemical compounds like silicon etc.

Silicon (Si) is a semiconductor element and some of the compounds normally used as the semiconductors also involve Si as their basic element.

Silicon is a tetravalent element (4 electrons in valence shell); next to oxygen it is the most abundant element in the earth's crust; occurs in clay and feldspar and granite and quartz and sand; used as a semiconductor in transistors etc.
