definition of some important terms in EDS
 

here are some important terms for EDS students. i hope these definitions will be useful for all of us.

[B]Annealing[/B] is a heat treatment wherein a material is altered, causing changes in its properties such as strength and hardness. Annealing is used to induce ductility, soften material, relieve internal stresses, refine the structure by making it homogeneous, and improve cold working properties.

[B]Electroplating[/B] is a plating process in which metal ions, in a solution, are moved by an electric field to coat an electrode. Electroplating is primarily used for depositing a layer of material to bestow a desired property (e.g., abrasion and wear resistance, corrosion protection, lubricity, aesthetic qualities, etc.) to a surface that otherwise lacks that property.

[B]Galvanization[/B] is the process of applying a protective zinc coating to steel or iron, in order to prevent rusting.

[B]Vulcanization[/B] is a chemical process for converting rubber or related polymers into more durable materials via the addition of sulfur or other equivalent "curatives." A vast array of products is made with vulcanized rubber including tires, shoe soles, hoses, and hockey pucks.

[B]Gestation period[/B], for mammals, is the time in which a fetus develops, beginning with fertilization and ending at birth.[1] The duration of this period varies between species.
