Default Types of Energy

Types of Energy

There are various types of energy:

1. Thermal energy
The vibration and movement of the atoms and molecules within substances produces Thermal Energy. As an object is heated up, its atoms and molecules move and collide faster. Geothermal energy is the thermal energy in the Earth.

2. Chemical energy
The energy stored in the bonds of atoms and molecules is called chemical energy. Batteries, biomass, petroleum, natural gas, and coal are examples of stored chemical energy. Chemical energy is converted to thermal energy when we burn wood in a fireplace or burn gasoline in a car's engine.

3. Electrical energy
Electrical Energy is delivered by tiny charged particles called electrons, typically moving through a wire. Lightning is an example of electrical energy in nature, so powerful that it is not confined to a wire.

4. Nuclear energy
Nuclear Energy is energy stored in the nucleus of an atom. It holds the nucleus together. When the nuclei are combined or split apart then a very large amount of energy can be released.

5. Elastic energy
Elastic energy is the potential mechanical energy stored in the configuration of a material or physical system as work is performed to distort its volume or shape. Or we can say that when anything is stretched it has elastic energy. Stretching the rubber of a slingshot allows energy to be stored, which can be used to cast the shot.

6. Sound energy
Sound is the movement of energy through substances in longitudinal waves. Sound is produced when a force causes an object to vibrate. Typically, the energy in sound is far less than other forms of energy.

7. Mechanical Energy
Mechanical energy is the sum of potential energy and kinetic energy present in the components of a mechanical system. It is the energy associated with the motion and position of an object.

8. Gravitational Energy
Gravitational Energy is energy stored in an object's height. The higher and heavier the object, the more gravitational energy is stored. Hydropower is an example of gravitational energy, where the dam "piles" up water from a river into a reservoir.

9. Motion Energy
Motion Energy is energy stored in the movement of objects. The faster they move, the more energy is stored. It takes energy to get an object moving, and energy is released when an object slows down. Wind is an example of motion energy.

10. Electromagnetic Energy
It is a form of energy that is reflected or emitted from objects in the form of electrical and magnetic waves that can travel through space. There are many forms of electromagnetic energy including gamma rays, x rays, ultraviolet radiation, visible light, infrared radiation, microwaves and radio waves.
