I studied from Jhanagir's URDU Medium ISL. Although my score remained average 50+, however with half day prep without any academy etc., I am very much satisfied and thankful to God.

I just decided in the centre to attempt in English (Nevertheless I was mentally prepared that if the paper demands traditional answers then I shall go for Urdu/Ayat/Ahadith and their translations and if the paper demands arguments then English). The paper was blend of both, I went for Current Affairs/Opinion based Qs of ISL and attempted in English.

It simply, depends how original and convincing material we put and definitely recent trends favour English, not the language in itself but the language as medium to provide with ease to argue. Definitely we can argue(as a general trend) better in English if the Qs are current affairs related since the more authentic and higher work is available in English/Arabic/Persian. Even we can quote Western philosophers (Thinkers). We can quote RT/CNN/BBC and other Western media to strengthen our arguments.
Not really its your choice.the fact is how much you have convincing power.I will attempt this paper in Urdu whenever I would take this exam
When will you appear?

Language has nothing to do with marks!

It's generally perceived that attempting the islamic studies paper in English language will give you more marks as compared to the national language. This concept is very wrong. In both of my attempts i had urdu as the medium of expression. The 2011 attempt without prep gave me 45 marks without even a single reference of any ayah or surah or hadith quoted in the paper. And in my 2012 attempt it gave me 71 with almost all mcqs correct!

All you need to do is write with clarity of mind and thought. Your answers shouldnt confuse the examiner. Your way of thinking should be clear and unbiased. Logical answers give you marks. I hope this was helpful :)

Go with the language in which you can better express your thoughts

1- Islamiat by Laqa Al-mohsin Zahid (revised syllabus) with objective type mcs'q plus 10 years past papers of css/pms.
2- Islamiat by Pro. Dr M. Khalil, with objective & various hadith & ayat with urdu translation.
Both books cover almost complete syllabus.
