How to give References from Quran, complete verse or just the Suurah and Ayyath number e.g 2:180?

If you remember the exact Verse, mention it without "Hijjay" (zer, zabar, pesh) preferable, and either mention the exact meaning if you remember otherwise mention that This verse sheds light as_______.
It is plus point if you would mention the Para number and Ayat number , yes you can also write as 2:180.
