How were your previous exam experiences..? ( just few lines )
Appear in PMS 2014 and score 62 in Pakistan Affair paper.
Appear in CSS 2016 and waiting for result.
Overall experience was very well easy and analytical papers.

The most powerful tool in competitive exams is Practice.
Read and also try to write what you read.

Only one attempt in CE-2016. The exam went way better than expected because I have a strong history background and I had prepared the subject well.

Pak Affairs by Ikram Rabbani (Caravan Publishers- Lahore)
History books of bachelors.
Dawn
The recommended books are good too but I didn't have time or energy to read them all so the only one I read was
Pakistan: Manifest Destiny
