Default Changing Pattern of PA

For the past two years we can notice significant change off pattern of both the Pakistan Affairs and Current Affairs. There were hardly any questions from past or historical topics as it used to be. Current Affairs paper was jammed packed with all global issues and topics relating to diplomatic attention of Pakistan and on the other hand, Pakistan Affairs' paper too was overloaded with important breakthroughs of the year.

I am caught in dilemma of preparation , particularity in case of Pakistan Affairs. Is it safe to prepare according to new pattern of paper or one should also prepare extensive historical background too?
