For before-partition and land and people use the O level History and Geography books
History and Culture of Pakistan by Nigel Kelly, and Environment of Pakistan
For post Pakistan use Ian Talbot. (If you don't want to read these three then get Akram Rabbani's book, but it is very bias)
For issue specific approach use: Maleeha lodi's Pakistan Beyond a Crisis State, Pakistan at Crossroads, and Pakistan a hard country.
