References can be quoted both directly and indirectly. For instance, if I mention the importance of indian ocean, I'll quote the axiom of a foremer US general by articulating, 'US indo-pacific policy has been shifted from the pacific to the indian ocean to contain rising China depicts the increasing importance of the very region, as evinced by Former US admiral Alfred Mahan by warranting dominance of the one who will take over the region'.

For direct references, you can highlight separately in inverted commas. For instance, if you are writing something on water, you will refer a quote like 'Water is the mother earth's non-fungible currency'. Samuel Colereigde.

Simply put the name of author or article name , and then quote the ideas in your own words because it's not easy to ratify everything.
And , don't forget to highlight your reference with some marker , you can underline it .
Here in css exams we don't give references like research papers, there is no hard-and-fast rule regarding this thing.
