Default 3rd June Plan

Salient Features of the third June Plan
1 Indo Pak subcontinent would be divided into two dominion states Pakistan and India.
2 Two states India and Pakistan would be independent states.
3 The constitution of government of India act 1935 would be the constitution of both states until
they frame their constitutions.
4 Rulers of Princely States would have the choice of whether to stay with India or want to join
Pakistan or remain independent.
5 Muslim majority provinces would have the choice of whether to join Pakistan or India.
The outcome of the third June plan
When the British announced the third June plan for the partition of India all political parties, such as the Muslim League and congress welcomed it. This plan paved the way for the independence of India and established a separate homeland for both nations. To put the third June plan in effect, the British government passed the Indian independence act on 15 July
1947. The act stated on 15 august 1947 Indian subcontinent would be partitioned into two dominion states India and Pakistan .The government of India act 1935 would be the constitution of both states
until they frame their constitution.
Thus Pakistan came into being on 14 august 1947 and India got independence on 15 august
1947.
how the third June plan was implemented
1 Hindu majority province, such as Madras, UP, Uresa and Bombay were annexed with India.
2 Western side of the Muslim majority province, Punjab, was annexed with Pakistan whereas
the Eastern side of Punjab was annexed with India.
3 . Bangal was also a Muslim majority province. Therefore east Bengal was annexed with
Pakistan while west Bengal was annexed with India
4 Balochistan was not a province there was only a chief officer. Balochistan was annexed with
Pakistan through the decision of shahi jirga.
5 Rulers of states were given the choice of whether to join Pakistan or stay with India or remain
independent.
Critical analysis and conclusion
Lord Mountbatten did injustice to Pakistan during the partition of the subcontinent .He tried to
give Quaid e Azam Ali Jinnah an unstable Pakistan. Moreover, during the partition, he gave
illegal favor to congress. He made Pakistan unstable in the following ways.
1 Hindu majority province in India was annexed with India without merging the Muslim minority
area with Pakistan
2 Punjab, which was Muslim populated province, were merged with Pakistan where there were
Muslims the majority. However, the Hindu minority area of Punjab was merged with India, which
was never done when it came to the Muslim minority area
3 KPK and Sindh were Muslim majority areas where the referendum was convened to get the
opinion of people
4 Issue of Kashmir was left unresolved which has been the bone of contention between the two
countries.
5 Lord Mountbatten annexed the part of Bangal that was a hundred miles away from West
Pakistan, which later on became separate by Hindu conspiracy.
Thus it can be seen that Lord Mountbatten, together with congress, secretly, tried to give Quaid
e Azam Ali Jinnah Pakistan, which was torn and unstable from the first day. Thus the British
government favored congress during the partition of the subcontinent and tried its best to make
Pakistan unstable since its inception. Besides, the British government deliberately gave a short
period for partition
