Omer will become famous soon enough
Lightbulb What does it mean by "party basis elections"?

We have been hearing that LG elections in Sindh would be on party basis.

What does it really mean? and what are the other options (basis) for elections?

Regards

According local ordinance 2001, promulgated by Musharaf. The candidates were said to contest elections on PANEL BASIS. Recently, passed local bill in the Sindh assembly has outlawed this point from the local ordinance and said to contest on PARTY BASIS. It means now all the political parties can contest the elections with their original names, like The PPP, the MQM and etc.
Basically, there is no difference b/w party and panel base system. Earlier, the prominent parties of the province contested the elections as per the following panels
PPP = Awam Dost panel
MQM = Haq Parast Panel

Now, the parties will contest the upcoming local elections (due held within 120 days) with their real name.
