my suggestion is to read a lot of the good books. books of foreign authors, for example. or read something like the economist, london, or newsweek or some other magazine of that sort. that will help you polish your english skills. Oh, and dont forget a good dictionary. if you dont understand a word, consult a dictionary. no one knows the meanings of all the words. plus, even one word could be used in a nuanced way. that way you will build vocabulary and you will understand clearly the meaning of each word.

On my last attempt.
Dear friends,
This is the last time I am gonna bug you with my desperate verbosity. Today, I saw my detailed marks on fpsc website. I wasn't shocked at all. Because I already expected this nonsense from fpsc. Last year they failed me in ESSAY with 30 marks when I was expecting more than 60 in the same. This year they failed me in composition and passed my essay just because they passed the essay of the majority. Now they will boast of their high criteria and low standards of candidates who couldnt make it. This, I must say, is sheer injustice with the candidates like me who donated their tears, toile, sweat and blood to the CSS. That would be a slap right on our faces. Was CSS' criteria sub-standard or were candidates exceptionally brilliant in bygone years? For example, in the year 2001 more than 800 candidates passed the written exam. The reason was, the instructions to the examiners from the Commission were lenient. Eversince the advent of macho-man, Kiani, in the Commission, the whole scenario has changed topsy turvy. Then, you depended more on luck and the discresion of the few. Your hard-work was not your only tool to get success in the examination. The new chairman has decided to tread in Kiani's footsteps but with even more brazen audacity. I suppose he instructed the paper-checkers to fail everyone int he paper of English composition who would otherwise fall between 40-50. I scored 50 in English in my first attempt, 40 in second and 33 in third. In my first attempt, I didnt even read Exploring. In the 2nd attempt, I was so jocund after this paper, that I expected more than 60 in it, but I fell on 40. In my third attempt, failure was not even in my remotest imagination. But here I go. We used to be 3 friends who used to prepapre together. One of us luckily made it in 2006 and was allocated in DMG. Another friend, who again took exams this year, failed again with 740 marks. (Under roll number 0231). The boys who used to come to us for guidance went through, successfully. My purpose to state all this is not to pocket the sympathies, but to put this question before you, whether it is luck or injustice? My answer to this is, injustice in luck's clothing. Farewell CSS forum. SHEHRAM MUZAFFAR. |

With due all my respect respect, This is nonsense to predict on the basis of rumours ! ISSB(Inter Services Selection Board) & FPSC (Federal Public Service Commission) are the most respected and trustable bodies of the country who recruit elite and personnel who have to drive pakistan progressive & prosperous! Should they hv had become corroupt with such big blunders; existence of Pakistan even may be in danger. Ok, mana keh transfer, posting etc tek to thek he but not such big blunders. So make your mind crystal clear about it. As far as C.J. is concerned dear (frankly speaking wo to apne son ko CSS pass na karwa sake---- agar corruption hotee at such level........ to in seb elite politicians n upper class people ke spouse hee CSPs hote..... ) I'm not trying to offend u in any way. Excuse in advance, if you hv felt anything inappropriate what i said. Best wishes for your life to come here & here after ! regards, yours very sincerely, Noman ! |

AOA All
Well, being an old fellow of this forum, I thought to speak out my heart as well after I saw TeeToTaller's post. A first question that comes in my mind is whether English is really necessary for development or for best administration. The answer is "no". Here is the reason. If we suppose that English is an international language and the language of our global village i.e. this world, even this, there is no need to speak or write perfect English. At the internation scenario, the uses of English can be in science and technology(including research), communication and correspondance, and media(tv, radio and newspapers/journals etc). First, in the research field, less than one percent of the people of a nation are involved. Also, the English used in research in not of a high quality, but just gramatically correct. In the communication field, you can communicate even if you are not of the level of shakespare and william words worth. Same is the case with media etc.... Hence there is no need to have perfect English for advancement in science and technology, communication and media. An example is all the non-english speaking developed countries of the world, like France, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, Belgium, Russia, China, and many more. They are not good in English, but even then they are highly developed. Hence English is not the criteria of development or better administration. A better approach could be to have many phases in the selection process apart from Written exam and interview, and filter the students in a phase wise, so that only top class students with best attitude towards administration and management could be selected. Alas! these Generals have no brain in their mind................. |
