I wrote about 3 essays. i did mention that i was a little confident about my english, i let it get to my head.. honestly, i didn't think my essay went that well, but i guess i was just lucky. you shouldn't be over confident, essay is an important part and you should prepare for it, especially if you think you are at a disadvantage

As for gender studies, there is no single book out there that covers the syllabus, unless it is a locally sourced book, and those are just copy pasted from wikipedia. you'll have to utilize more than one source to complete the syllabus. secondly, knowing the syllabus is one thing, but the paper had a lot of questions dealing with current issues that affect women, so you need to be aware mostly

Miss Sara you should keep sharing your experience and strategy with the aspirants, and @Mr Waqar, If you think she is lying and all that stuff, you better should not follow this thread.

I had been a Moderator at this Forum, and my experience tells me that she is not lying and sharing her experience with a little excitement, which of course itna to banta hai, and CSS is of course a Do-able job in 2.5 months, I know many people who are allocated in different groups and they properly studied for only 2-3 months, rest was their previous knowledge.

This form in not much active as it used to be in Past, if someone (Like this Mam Sara) has shared her experience, i see this forum is active now, and people are participating, Plus it's a motivating factor for many aspirants that they can do it.

Stop fighting.

PS: Ms Sara please carry on with your query answering thing, and ignore the irrelevant and lame questions.

PEACE!

I just wanted to share my experience in this journey so far, hopefully, I can be of some help to someone. First off, let me say that css is a relative and subjective experience, it is different for everyone, so don't take everything that everyone says to heart. everyone is different and you should play to your strengths instead of trying to emulate everyone else.
I started off with 2.5 months in hand, it wasnt like i was completely clueless, i knew what i was doing. i had decided on my optionals but i was still apprehensive. everyone kept telling me you cant do it, people spend years on css, youre not going to make it. i put this negativity aside and started my preparation.
the preparation phase is hazy, but i do remember that instead of trying to cram and memorize everything, i focused on major concepts and made my own notes. if anyone is interested, i can do a subject wise analysis too, but i'll table it for now.
for me, the most nerve wracking part was the one week of exams. i ve never been more exhausted and emotionally drained. it is a real test of nerves and its a miracle i sustained through.
ESSAY: honestly, even though i was confident going in to the exam, i wasn't so much when i got out. I felt i didn't do as well as I could have and was pretty gutted. I attempted on feminism, which seemed to be pretty popular choice and everyone had different ideas, and i felt that my arguments didn't hold up as well.

Precis: at the risk of sounding too conceited, I was pretty satisfied with my precis paper. I sailed through the grammar portion and found the precis to be straightforward.

Current/ Pak affairs: these two papers were fun to attempt, they mainly focused on current topics including pak affairs. they were mostly argumentative and analytical in nature

GSA: To be honest, i wasnt well prepared for this exam and math is a sworn enemy of mine, but fortunately, i was able to attempt on topics i had actually prepared.

Islamiat: This is one exam, i had nightmares about. I was sure that if i failed, islamiat would be my undoing. looking back now, it was probably my mcqs and the terrorism question that saved me.

Political Science: Pol Sci was the subject, i studied for the most, mainly because it is worth 200. I was apprehensive, since very few people opt for this and the trend is mostly to go for IR; but i was genuinely interested in the subject matter and it also helped me in pak and current affairs. overall, i felt it was a decent enough attempt.

International Law: This is a technical but pretty straightforward subject to prepare, requires a little bit more effort, but from what i've heard, it is a rewarding subject.

History of USA: again this is a popular choice, but this was an interesting experience. i poured over the historical events meticulously but in the end, the paper was based on the current scenario and international situation.

Sociology: I had some degree of proficiency in this subject to begin with, having studied it previously in high school. Again, this paper had elements dealing with current issues.

Gender Studies: This particular subject really tested me. to begin with the reading material available was of poor quality and did not address the syllabus adequately. I had to make my own notes from scratch. on the bright side, all my research did help in my essay paper.

so, there you have it. I would just like to add i'm no expert, this journey was fraught with doubts and difficulties and I still have a long way to go. in this moment, i'm thankful and feel blessed.

my fellow candidates who've made it through, please share you experience, if possible. I'm sure we can learn a lot from each other.

Cheers

saraimran congratulations. can you please help me to get your email, I don't know where to get.

Despite I couldn't make but Just with 15 days LFP in total including exam days my DMC and past experience (Twice passing PMS Punjab, ARCS(PPSC)-2016, Descriptive AD MoD (NTS) 2015, Descriptive AD FGO(FPSC)-2015) make me to agree with you. I second you sir. It's quality of time spent rather quantity. It's how we can analyse rather cram!

@Sara, no doubt my compilation had many flaws due to my first experience being an author especially the contents were NOT covered and some additional topics were there. However, feedback of yours will highly be of value to improve the next edition. Anyone is welcome to share the feedback/suggestions for improvement. Regards, M.A Raza

I wonder what gone good with my Essay Paper 43. I did't write outlines (Millitary Engagments by UN.....) I remember to havent quote any single example or refrence about UN peacekeeping mission because I had no idea about it. I just tried to justify that UN have failed to achieve its obligations in Socio-Economic spheres and added USA's aggression in countires like iraq, afgh.., etc to voilate the soveriegnty of these weaker states. I explained the emergence of terror oganizatios from UN sanctioned coarcive pilicies and US aggresion.
In end I suggested some politico-legal measures to end the problems.
I wrote rought scatch of my thoughts on last page based on the knowledge gained from articles and newspaper reading and started writing without keeping essay writting rules in mind like what to write in intro body or conclusion or even punctuation marks, I thought to write something than leaving the copy blank. Such was my mental condition. I went with my thoughts and even didnt see pages or counted words. Really speaking I was very hopeless, as soon I saw the paper because there was nothing on which I coud write. I choose this topic because I had some general perspective on UN.
Though it was my test attempt as I never truned the leaf of books of most of the subjects. I remember to have purchased just four books only. Islamic Study, GSA, Precis and Pak affair. Purchased JWT monthly and sometimes read dawn. I have never seen any academy or ever visited any teacher or center for tutsion, because I had no time.
I have written all this to tell you that Essay paper is not such as we have been listening.

Default Here is an outline of a failed essay. So avoid it !!

Is colonial mentality impeding Pakistan’s progress ?
 Introduction
 Meaning of colonial mentality and colonialism
 Historical overview of colonialism and consequent colonial mentality
 Colonial system inherited to Pakistan from British colonialism & its consequent colonial mentality:
• Difference between Pakistan and Indian territories – Martial races in Punjab; Non-regulated & Central bureaucratic system in North-west India
 Why colonial mentality is an impediment to progress whereas colonists are successful in their own regions
 Colonial mentality in socio-cultural values of Pakistan – social injustice; inequality; ignorance of Islamic principles
 Colonial mentality in economic system of Pakistan – dependence of economy on IMF & World Bank
 How colonial mentality is impeding Pakistan’s progress
• Unstable democratic system- impact of inherited political system from British colonialism
• Unequal candidature opportunities in elections
• “Inverted Totalitarianism” – dominance of feudal & commercial landlords
• Ignorance of Islamic principles – the ideology of Pakistan
• Dependence on west
• “Bonapartism” – despotism of civilian leaders – an inherited feature of colonists
 Remedial measures to get rid of colonial mentality
• Theo-democracy (Theology & democracy) – sovereignty of God in democratic principles
• “Nasserism” and “Sukarno Indonesian” – Anti-colonial thoughts
• Jeffersonian political model (4 parts) – Anti-aristocrat; Anti-Monarch; Anti-imperialism; Equal candidature opportunities
• “Salafism” by Jamal Uddin Afghani – to uphold modernity & self-dependence by rejecting colonialist thoughts
• Role of IMAFT & OIC – comprising the countries which remained under Western colonialism
 Current status of Pakistan’s progress in eyes of Western political scientists – Anatol Lieven; Christopher Jefferilot
 Conclusion
