Bhagwandas disappointed with PM on FPSC matters
By Dilshad Azeem
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has put on hold the appointment of four members of the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) creating obstacles for the institution headed by a respected retired Justice Rana Bhagwandas. “Neither has the premier so far issued directives to anyone nor is there any progress in the last one month on this particular question,” PM Secretariat sources confided to The News here on Tuesday. These sources maintained that there might be a reason for holding the appointments of four FPSC members, as there are sections in the PM Secretariat to handle and remind the premier on pending issues. “There was nothing in black and white in the whole one month,” they responded to a query. Bhagwandas called on the prime minister on April 18, 2010 and during their session all issues of the commission were discussed in detail, including the appointments and inductions against the four vacant positions. In the same meeting, the premier had not only approved but also made a promise to the FPSC chairman to induct the persons in accordance with his recommendations with immediate effect, said the sources. The FPSC needs to take one former judge from a high court or Supreme Court, one woman on a reserved seat and two from retired public servants. “The FPSC chairman not only forwarded names but also obtained approval from the prime minister on the spot.” “Yes, a promise was made to me by the prime minister to appoint members of the Commission to ease the working and lay off pending things for years,” confirmed the FPSC chairman. “I don’t know why nothing happened despite approvals and promises,” the FPSC chairman said, adding: “We, the FPSC, have just seven members in the 11-member commission.” Raja Bhagwandas said he talked to the prime minister on these inductions specifically and on immediate basis to improve overall performance of the department and to shun the possibility of a kind of leakage. “We should take the FPSC like the Supreme Court.” http://thenews.jang.com.pk/top_story...l.asp?Id=28954 |

Political cronies want their share of quota in CSS. That's extremely ridiculous. Hats off to Bhagwan Das. He, being at the helm of affairs, reflects transparency in the institution.
