Service quota plan is also ready for jobs distribution among different service groups.

The government has decided to offer gazetted posts to 388 candidates out of 895 persons who cleared Central Superior Service (CSS) examination 2009, it is learnt reliably.

Sources in the Establishment Division told The Express Tribune that the authorities (of the division) have forwarded a service quota plan to the Federal Service Public Commission (FPSC) in this regard.

“We have decided to offer jobs to 388 successful candidates who appeared in CSS examination in 2009. To this effect, we have also forwarded a service quota plan to FPSC,” sources said.

Under the suggested quota plan for 300 candidates, as many as 40 seats will be allocated to Income Tax Group, 13 to the Customs and Excise Group, 20 to Information Group, 13 to Military Land and Cantonment Group and 50 to Office Management Group.

Furthermore, 45 seats will be allocated to Pakistan Audit and Accounts Service, 3 to Railways Group and 13 to Postal Group whereas 40 seats are being allocated to District Management Group.

Of these 40 seats, 36 will be filled by candidates clearing CSS examination while four seats will be allocated under quota reserved for armed forces.

Similarly, the Establishment Division has proposed to allocate 26 seats to Foreign Service out of which 24 will be filled by candidates clearing CSS while two candidates would come in under armed forces’ quota.

Likewise, 17 seats will be allocated to Police Service of Pakistan, of which 15 will be filled through candidates clearing CSS exam whereas two persons will join under quota reserved for forces.

It may be recalled that former military dictator Ziaul Haq had fixed 10 per cent quota for the armed forces in civil services which is still being observed.

Although the government has purged the constitution of all the anti-democratic articles inserted into it during the Zia era, including the dictator’s name, the decision to fix quota for the armed forces remains intact.

In addition to these 300 gazetted posts, the sources said 88 posts have been carried forward in 2007 and 2008, as not many people succeeded to clear the CSS examinations.

These 88 seats will also be filled after strictly observing job quota reserved for provinces, the sources maintained. “We are offering 88 posts to successful candidates this time as these seats are still lying vacant due to low number of successful candidates during 2007 and 2008,” sources familiar with the situation added.

It is also learnt that written tests for CSS have been held whereas the government plans to hold CSS exams for the year 2011 in February.
