Islamabad: Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) Chairman Justice (R) Rana Bhagwan Das will be retired from his post on Friday (today), a report said.

The report said that the authorities were mulling Lt (r) Shafaqat Ahmed’s, who had been a military secretary of former Army Chief and President General (r) Prevez Musharraf, as a successor of Bhagwan Das.

Justice Bhagwan Das, a highly respected name of the Pakistani judiciary, was a senior judge and former acting chief justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (CJP). He remained the acting CJP during the 2007 judicial crisis in Pakistan and became the first Hindu and the second non-Muslim to serve as chief of the highest court in Pakistan.

FPSC Chairman Justice (r) Rana Bhagwan Das retired from his post on Friday.



ISLAMABAD: According to sources, after retirement of Justice (r) Rania Bhagvan Das, the authorities are mulling Lt (r) Shafaqat Ahmed’s, who had been a military secretary of former Army Chief and President General (r) Prevez Musharraf.


Justice (r) Bhagwan Das, a highly respected name of the Pakistani judiciary, was a senior judge and former acting chief justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (CJP).


He remained the acting CJP during the 2007 judicial crisis in Pakistan and became the first Hindu and the second non-Muslim to serve as chief of the highest court in Pakistan.

President appoints Batool Qureshi as Member FPSC

ISLAMABAD, Dec 14 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the appointment of Mrs. Batool Iqbal Qureshi as Member Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC). Mrs. Batool Iqbal Qureshi, a BS-22 officer of Secretariat Group possessing domicile from the Northern Area, has recently retired from the Government service on attaining the age of superannuation while she was posted as Secretary Human Rights Division.

During her career, she has served as Secretary Women Development Division, Chairman National Tariff Commission, Senior Joint Secretary Planning & Development Division and Deputy Secretary National Assembly.

The summary initiated by the Establishment Division proposed to the Prime Minister to advise the President for the said appointment saying that in view of the service profile of Mrs. Batool Iqbal Qureshi, she is eligible to be appointed as Member Federal Public Service Commission for a normal term of three years or till she attains the age of sixty-five years, whichever is earlier.
Accordingly, acting upon the advice of the Prime Minister the President has approved the appointment of Mrs. Batool Iqbal Qureshi as Member Federal Public Service Commission.
