FIA arrests six for attempting to bribe FPSC DG APP February 13, 2014 ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Wednesday arrested six accused for attempting to bribe the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) director general (Secrecy) by offering him Rs 20 million for clearing examinations through illegal means. Addressing a press conference, FIA Director Captain Zafar Iqbal said that a few days ago, a complaint was received from the FPSC DG Secrecy who alleged that Muhammad Asif of Lahore was attempting to induce his driver Sarwar for getting his son and daughter cleared in CSS examinations of February-March 2014. On the directions of the FIA Islamabad Zone Director, a team was constituted comprising Muhammad Tahir Tanveer, assistant director, Crime Circle, FIA, Islamabad and Rawalpindi Inspector Alamdar Shah and Inspector Farooq Latif. The team held meetings with driver Sarwar and the DG Secrecy. Inspector Alamdar Shah was used as a source to whom Muhammad Asif offered Rs 20 million for getting his son Ali Raza and daughter Ayesha Latif cleared in CSS examinations. The team undertook a raid under the supervision of Magistrate Hussain Bahadur, Islamabad and arrested accused Malik Muhammad Asif and his son Ali Raza and daughter Aysha Asif, who were set to appear in the CSS examinations starting from February 15. Three other persons, including Malik Ejaz, and two residents of Lahore Jamshed and Malik Shakir Hayat were also arrested. The FIA director presented before the media the six accused and the currency notes and cheques of Rs 20.9 million recovered from them. Zafar Iqbal said that a case had been registered against the arrested accused while further investigation was underway. Efforts would be made to bust the other members of the network, who attempted to corrupt the FPSC’s system, particularly the CSS examinations, he added. |
