What i have observed regarding essay is that argumentative essays are a bit difficult to pass. And I also know the major reason:Stiludents often fail to build arguments from multiple angles.I will also give some examples. For instance, take the case of "the war on terror has contributed to growing abuse of human rights".In this essay, majority got just 20 to 25 marks because many failed to build arguments from multiple angles.
Actually,its solution looks like this.
1- The war on terror is an unjust war and has violated the sovereignty of the countries where it was started.Taliban were ready to cooperate with America providing the superpower gave cogent proofs against bin laden. However,America did not.Instead,America invaded Afghanistan without any definite proof regarding involvement of Bin Laden. This shows the war was not for self defence. In addition,Iraq also did not possess WMD.In both cases,America transgressed, violated the sovereignty of the countries, and unjustly killed thousands of innocent people there.
2-The war on terror adopted militaristic strategy to uproot terrorism. The forces used drone attacks and bombs to fight with terrorists. In both cases, innocent civilians were also killed as it is impossible to target terrorists with accurate precision.Besides, public infrastructure was also damaged. Many people lost their properties and homes.
3- The war on terror created fear and uncertainty.People apprehended they might be killed if they leave their homes. So,they refrained from participating in politics, doing job,and so on and so forth.
4- The war on terror maligned Muslims across the world. The war created the impression that it were the Muslims who exploit militancy to achieve political goals.Because of which,Muslims are being discriminated against in many shapes.
In this way many arguments could be constructed. However, many fail to use this trick.

Do share how you attempted your essay in 2018 and what do you think went wrong in the next attempt?

Being your final attempt you should not gamble with scoring trends. How can you even be 100% certain which subject will be targeted? Just choose the subject that you feel comfortable with and are strong in.

Dear!

I have seen your marks in IR and I. Law. They are very low. I would suggest you to opt political science and constitutional law. They are easier and most probably they will give you higher marks. These two subjects compliment each other very well.

Best of Luck!

The same happened to me. I have never failed an English Grammar Paper. However, I am unable to pass the Essay Paper. I scored 64 in PMS Grammar Paper. I passed English Composition in CSS Exams of 2017 and 2019. In CE- 2019, I scored 58 marks in English Grammar. However, I scored only 18 marks in Essay in both attempts despite the fact that I had passed the mock papers given by a very reputable teacher.
CSS 2022 will be my last attempt. Do you have any idea how to pass the Essay Paper.

You know what, I have secured 50, which was the highest marks in essay mock paper conducted by KIPS academy. Nevertheless, I received just a disappointing result. CSS is nothing short of a gamble
