Waalaikum Salam,

English Essay

You must practice writing essays on white plain A-4 papers of inferior quality. Practice as much as you can. Take any past paper, set your stopwatch time to 3 hours. Try to write an essay upto 4000 words. Then after you have finished , show your essay to any person who has command over english language. Keep this routine going on, until you are perfect. It would improve your writing power and grammar as you would be writing constantly and your mistakes would be highlighted to you.

English Precis and Composition

I think Exploring world of english is a good book. In addition to this, attempt english precis paper of previous years. All the questions and ask an English teacher to check and mark it for you. Since, you would be attempting the paper on regular basis, it would help you in improving your grammar.

Pak Affairs

Goto Oxford Univ Press and buy the book Constitutional History of Pakistan by Hamid Khan. In addition to this, if you find the book by the same name by Safdar Mehmood, 1970 edition, it would be wonderful. The book by Safdar Mehmood would give you a very good insight into the period before 1857.

S Khan:

It depends on the paper set by the examiner. In 2006, none of the idioms came from Exploring. So you must read as much as is possible. From any book.
For EDS, i think the best book is An encyclopedic manual of every day science by Dr. Rab Nawaz Samo ( publisher maktabai faridi). The book by safdar mehmood is very old and you will find it in a second hand book shop most probably. Constitutional and Political History of Pakistan.
