CSS 2008 Experience
one thing i'd like to add...i went for the essay paper, and obviously one is tense as its the first time. But, when settling for the precis paper (my seat was at the end of row), i noticed this smell...ummmm smell harder a stench in fact, it was not that one person around in there didnt bother to shower, they were so many!!!
In islamabad the weather was cool, the FPSC exam halls were cooler still, with out any fan. But the stench...then i noticed the invigilators opening all the windows and turning on fans at the end of the hall where space was empty. poor souls. And there was this guy i saw in the same T-shirt,throughout. There is no need to get all dressed up like its a party like some girls do. But one should take a shower before coming for the exam and wear neat clean ironed clothes. Not only it has a great impact on the person, it spares the people around you. |

CSS-2008-Experience
AOA to all who have appeared in CSS-2008.The experience was very rewarding for me.i am an electrical engineer and i always considered myself an uderdog.throughout my academic career my performance in arts subjects had been poor.through this 2008-attempt i have regained my confidence.i regret one thing profoundly that i was misguided for at least five months.neverthless the css exams is a challenge for our cramming skills.my extensive suffeing and investigation enabled me to unearth the mystery behind the making of a CSP.it should be appropriate to repeat the words of G.B.Shaw that "the golden rule is that there is no golden rule".results in css can be achieved my many techniques.the most subtle is proper consultation, discussion and aptitude.i didn't join any academy.i don't think that i am the most deserving candidate for this exam but i dare say that i need this success direly.whenever i got tired during my prepration i used to remind myself what napoleon once quoted."victory belongs to the most perseverance".my english expression in my own opinion is not upto the mark of excellent written english standard.but owing to the information and the pattern of this css exam, i had made myself understand that i can take my best chance.i strongly believe that i will succeed.my essay wasn't exceptional but it wasn't poor either.i attempted "Can we prevent a thrid world war?".my reply was yes and i supported my arguments.on the whole my css attempt exceeded my expectations and i believe that i did 30% better than my prepration.this means that due to luck factor i contributed 130% in the said exam.i wish success to my other friends who have attempted this year.may allah bless you all with success and prosperity.i am highly indebted to the moderators and operators of this forum.they have enabled me to communicate with all of you.thank you very much.Allah Hafiz

You walk into the centre and observe the familiar nervous faces and last minute crammers that are usually seen in any exam. Yes it all seemed familiar and I was comforted that there are others who are in the same predicament as I was. As the papers progressed back to back it was all physically and mentally draining due to the incessant power cuts and long hours of commuting to and fro. By the Pak Studies papers I was stuck in a mental block. I read Aligarh Movement around 25 times and the words just wouldn’t sink in!! Despite that it went pretty well considering that I didn’t revise much!
During the papers it was unthinkable to imagine life beyond the exams as I had cut off all my friends and the shaadis going around. But we had a shortage of teaching staff at the school where I teach and I had to go there even during my exam leave. One thing that was very annoying was that the examiners would withhold the question papers, as I have always been in the habit of grading myself immediately after every exam I have ever attempted throughout my life. lollz! I don’t know how many of you do that, but I really like to hold on to my question paper. Not that they weren’t returned to us the next day but by then I would be to focused on the paper at hand than to bother about he previous one. My main concern prior to the written exams was my essay paper. I too attempted “Can we prevent a Third World War” and I was positive in my answer. Since I had prepared notes on Nuclear Proliferation, Clash of Civilizations and Imminent threat of US attack on Iran, I was able to furnish relevant facts, and cite past and current events in support for my answers. I was very nervous and made a few careless punctuation and spelling mistakes which were corrected by crossing out the mistakes! Arrgh! Hope the Examiner ignores them! Wishful thinking. The passage for précis and composition weren’t wholly unseen as I they have come up previously and Im sure many of us had practiced on them during our preparation so that went well to except that again due to my nervousness I couldn’t stop writing. And gave overly lengthy answers. I should’ve been brief. At times I’m very optimistic that ive hit the bull’s eye and then I remember some of the blunders I made and blush. I have been preparing for the past year and managing my studies along with my job as a preschool teacher. I didn’t have time for attending a preparation centre so I studied independently ad at my own pace. I feel compulsories went well but optionals thora aur achcha hosakta tha. Its all done now and all one can do is wait for the outcome. I keep busy but mind keeps lingering to the big questiom, “Will I or will I not make it?” Best of luck everybody…….hang on. This too shall pass.
