AOA,
With an allocation you will probably be in the CTP during CSS-2010 written exams. Can you than attempt the exams during the CTP.I also have passed this year but am quite low in merit(587), but being from Kashmir there still are chances for allocation. Therefore I am interested to know whether a person can join CTP and still sit in 2010 exams?

I think that there is no bar in appearing in the competitive exams while one is under training at csa. But one needs permission to appear in the exam, probably from the D.G, C.S.A.

AoA.

It really depends upon one's choice.Obviously you wanted DMG but i think you will be really lucky if you make it to customs and Excise department. Miss Samia Habib, topped CSS 2005 opted for customs as her first choice. There are a number of reasons which make females go for customs but i think the chief is that the officers in customs get postings in Urban and metropolitan areas like karachi, lahore,Peshawar,Quetta, multan, faisalabad and sialkot etc, but in DMG one can be posted even in far flung areas like Rahim Yar Khan etc. And officers get double basic pay in Income Tax and Customs. Customs is mainly related with the Import and exports, collection of Federal Sales Tax and Excise duty, customs intelligence etc. One can also move in secretariat group once one is inducted in grade 20, and can be appointed as Joint Secretary at the federal level.

Other good groups for females can be,
1.OMG
2.Income Tax group
3.FSP ( IF your spouse in willing and supportive )
4.Audit and accounts.

But the final decision is yours. Think over it, consult some seniors and your close relations. But i assure you if you get into customs you won't regret it.

Regards
