Salam
I totally agree with what you have said, its strange why ppl are discouraging us like we are not even csp officers.I fully understand that OMG is not like DMG but it has its own positives,we are in no way less than others groups. If you look at the allocation list you will notice most of the OMGian have good merit order, may be most of the ppl have little info about OMG while other group in the mean time have progressed a lot.I think your suggestions are good perticularly about MBA in HRM.We need to equip OMG with modren techniques of office management i am surprised why such an important group has been neglected up till now.
I hope now after its revival we see positive changes especially for us 37th commons.

@ starz ,Are you in OMG ?

Regards.

Default @ AFRMS & other OMGians...

You people get very strong and important positions. According to many friends of mine, most civil servants as well as other govt officers strive to have "closer" realtionship with OMG officers in order to stay informed of "their" files' movement . People sometimes even say (after their own experiences) that if you "know well" an S.O. in your concerned ministry, many things (from postings to perks like residence and vehicles etc.) happens as per your desire.

And above all, being a part of the civil service is one of the greatest prides in itself. And that pride and honour is equally shared by every group/ service in civil service.

So keep your spirits high and be cool...

FST steps in to suspend promotion of 50 OMG officers

Sunday, August 09, 2009
By Rauf Klasra

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Services Tribunal (FST) on Friday stopped the Promotion Board from deciding the promotion cases of about 50 officers of the Office Management Group (OMG) in its important meeting on Saturday (today). The restriction came after about two dozen OMG officers sought justice from the tribunal claiming discriminated against due to the decision of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.

Two members of the FST, Zaheer Ahmed and Salim Gul Sheikh, after hearing the arguments, passed the orders to stay Saturday’s proceedings of the Promotion Board, which were being held to decide the promotion of OMG officers from the BPS 18 to BPS 19. The promotion Board would discuss the promotion cases of the rest of the groups but it would not touch the OMG promotion cases.

Earlier, the FST members’ orders were conveyed to Secretary Establishment Ismail Qureshi on Friday to stop him from taking up the OMG officers’ promotion case till the handing down of the final decision.

Two dozen OMG officers recruited directly through the CSS process had moved the FST to get relief after they found themselves at the receiving end because of the controversial decision of the prime minister purportedly tilted in favour of those OMG officers who were inducted in this cadre through promotion from different lower cadres of clerks, superintendents, direct inductions, etc.

Aware of simmering discontent amongst OMG officers, the Establishment Division moved a summary to the prime minister to put an end to the controversy by determining the issue of seniority.

The row erupted over the issue that all those who were inducted into the OMG through direct induction, CSS or promoted from lower ranks would be considered in the promotion board as being equivalent in seniority. Even officers, who were inducted into OMG through CSS exams, were treated as equal in seniority with those who were inducted or promoted in OMG from the lower ranks, a few months down the road. The Establishment Division wanted this faulty rule to be amended so that seniors got their due seniority.

The prime minister was also convinced with the logic that the CSS officers who were inducted into the job before the directly inducted or promoted officers in any year, should be considered seniors.

But, the Law Ministry suggested that this decision should not have retrospective effect but applicable only in future.

This one proviso of PM’s ultimate decision made a group of 25 OMG officers of CSS batch-2000 junior to those promoted officers who were inducted into the group much later in the same year.

The OMG officers prayed to the FST that theirs was the last group of OMG officers recruited through the CSS, so they should be given the benefit of seniority in the light of PM’s decision.

But, in a communication to The News a spokesman of OMG (promoted officers) disputed the claim of OMG (CSS) on the grounds that the decision of the authority (PM Gilani) did not have retrospective effect, as it would have opened a new Pandora’s box had the batch of 2000 been given the right of seniority over those who were inducted months after them in service.

They also rejected the objections of the OMG (CSS) group and claimed their right to seniority and promotion on merit. The spokesman also wondered why these officers did not raise such objections at the time of promotion in BPS 18 and suddenly woke up to the fact that they were declared juniors to them through PM decision.

Salam to all

yes all the OMGians wake up ! during the past week i heard lot of stuff about OMG mostly not good .
Like i heard the pay of OMGians is around 10-12,000 with no housing facility no transport and very sluggish promotion.
Is it true ? I understand the nacent stages of this dept are tough and that you have to work as section officers even in grade 18 but i believe the future prospects are good.
few other things have been in my mind like why recruitment in OMG was halted and why now after many years it is revived again ,and that will it be at same standards like it was before or we can expect some good changes.
regards.

well as far as the promotions are concerned, OMG is the most progressive group among civil service occupational groups...If u read the article post in this thread then you would realise that The last batch of OMGians recruited through CSS EXAM 2000 have recently been denied promotion to 19th scale because of direct entry of OMG officers later in that year...so it's not a worry that OMG is not a good group in terms of promotion
