Very much true, but there are also news that new department namely Pakistan or Inland revenue services would be established by the Presidential Ordinance, and Customs group officers will be asked to join IRS which would be irrevocable afer joining IRS. So it may be a temporary settlement that Member Excise would be from Customs but once IRS is established, positively member would be from IRS - (INCOME, SALES & EXCISE TAX). Ultimately after 1981 once again Sales and excise would come under the umbrella of Income Tax group.

salam and lots of Mubarak Bads to all group mates.
I've heard the IRS is in the making, and ,perhaps, in the begining of August a notification will be issued as has been described by our colleague Adnan Shahid. But what will be the organogram of the IRS is yet not clear. Also it's in the air that the condition for MBA has been abolished.Lets wait and see. Apart from this i would request my colleagues to shed some light on the perks (salary, authority, jurisdiction, promotion prospects etc) enjoyed by assistant commissioners of Icome Tax. Also if some has got knowledge of organizatinal structure of Income Tax do share with us. regards, Asst.Commissioner Muhammad Kashif Khan ITG,37th CTP |

Good News for Income Tax Officers
Hello and AoA
I have a good news for all of us ( Regarless of the fact that most of us here want to re-appear an improve our group :p ) The government of Pakistan has finally acceded to the demand of IMF regarding the creation of PRS, Pakistan Revenue Service. Which will encompass all the revenue collection in Pakistan. This means that Sales Tax and Federal excise would also come under Income Tax department ( much to the dismay of C & E group ) . Customs and Excise group has also agreed to these changes but are contemplating new means by which the group can increase their seats in other departments. For example it was recently announced that two seats for Customs group were being created in many embassies in order to facilitate the bussiness comunity, the list goes on. This was decided in a meeting of Customs officials held yesterday in Lahore. These changes would once again bring Income Tax group into lime light and we may see this group climb up rapidly in aspirants preference forms. Regards

Thanks for such an attitude, really appreciate that.
Would you like to shed some light on new SRO which describes that companies will deduct tax from their unregistered suppliers as 3.5% + 16% total 19.5%. Anynews about the imposition of taxes on the services sector. In addition, there were news that services sector will have to get themselves registered for Sales Tax.? |

Prs
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is striving to establish Pakistan Revenue Service (PRS), which is one of the conditions of International Monetary Fund (IMF) to acquire the third tranche of the $7.6 billion standby loan.
Sources told Business Recorder on Saturday that the board has given the deadline of September 15 to Establishment Division for its constitution, and added that summary in this regard has been moved to the Prime Minister for approval. Following the past poor experience pertaining to proposal for Inland Revenue Service (IRS), the FBR has decided to recruit fresh blood for the purpose, sources said. They said that officials from customs and income tax groups have option to join 'PRS group' or continue the service in their respective groups. Furthermore, they said, the board could also exercise the power under section 10 of establishment rules to depute the officers from any group to PRS for three years. "FBR is of the view that the existing income tax group was the driving cluster in the tax department; hence no new recruitment would be made in future," they added. They said that PRS is aimed to enhance revenue collection to create positive impact on tax-to-GDP ratio, which was posted at 9 percent in outgoing fiscal year. They said the taxpayers are presently obligated to enrol in both sales tax and income tax departments, separately, to pay off their tax liabilities, while PRS would simplify the procedure by issuing single identity for both levies and would also discourage tax evasion. However, the officials from customs group are pessimist in this regard, and said that it could not provide any positive results unless the records of both systems would not reconciled in an effective manner. They expressed apprehension over the issue, saying that records related to sales tax are not properly maintained, which creates difficulties for taxmen to share relevant information with other tax offices and urged the board to take remedial measures in this connection before introducing PRS.(Business Recorder) rana aftan 37th common |
