Dear Bunko,
Sir Razi advises according to his vast experience. Each year dozens of his students qualify CSS. BTW, its not the last word. If you are willing to use headings, then go ahead. Phir na kehna k pehlay bataya kiyon nhn |

well this is kind of confusing......... sum guys say do it sum say don't but i really think one should go for headings because if u r really writing a 30-35 page essay ......it would help examiner to evaluate what exactly is written.......he is not really access a civil service paper of pakistan solely on the basis of outlines !!! ..... and i would even say that most depends on the material u have written !!!

I dint use headings at all in essay and scored 61 ,last year ofcourse Essays dont have headings they should be Crisp Outlined Precise full of Cogent Content ALSO length does not matter as much as it may seem,I remeber we had instructions to write 4000 words and i could write around 1500-2000 words essay and dint drag it becasue i dint have more to offer on that subject at that instant and still scored reasonably. Its kind of a trap one feels in exam that he/she is writing new things but actually are just putting across the same thing in a slightly different manner ,so do read your essay as you attempt it from time to time ,say after you have written 3-4 pages,go through it to check relevance and avoid repetition. Avoid repitition specially repitition usually done for the sake of increasing the volume.

Technically headings are not part of an essay. They may be used to show separate parts of a literary paper, research paper, news report, or even a simple question. When you write an outline, it gives the whole picture of your essay in a nutshell. You don't need to write headings again. They would just create more hurdles and confusion in the conformity and coherence of thought presented in the essay. You must go through your essay with your content and matter along with your original sentence structuring (expression). In other words an essay can be divided into these parts: Content (wording), Concept (premise, what is your logic or the point on which you have framed your ideas), Coherence (conformity of thought), References (quotations, facts and figures, etc) and Syntaxing (expression, your language). I believe one should have a good control of all these factors to produce good essays.

Thanks All !
So Conclusion is, We should not use Headings or Sub-Headings and Length of the essay doesn't matter, what matter is your qualitative approach of writing. For the Coherent of paragraph using of transition words and for the improvement of essay facts and figures is compulsory which is also mentioned in FPSC requirement of Essay paper. InshAllah will do my best to get good marks, Hope your recommendations will be beneficial for us. Amen! Regards,

@ All.
Well i myself used headings in the essay paper and passed. I only used headings of the points that i mentioned in the outline. I think if you are writing a 25 page essay then how could the examiner come to know what you are writing. I mean it becomes monotonous that you keep writing without giving the examiner a fair idea of whats going on. I think one should leave 2 pages for the outline but write the outline only after finishing the essay. If you write the outline first then it becomes difficult to follow it. You must have an outline in your mind and try to follow it, then after finishing the essay write the outline on the first 2 pages that you left blank.

However, if we use headings of the points that we mentioned in outline can fascinate the checker to evaluate other paragraphs while giving numbers. According to me as being a financial student, 60:40% ratio here. @ Shallow Water; Dear you appeared as a light in darkness for me . Please when ever you get your marks, Please let us know about it. Thank you! Regards,

@ Bunko.
I would definitely tell you abt my marks in the essay paper. I think headings are not an issue; what matters is the material that you are providing. I used headings in all the questions in the exam; not only in the essay. Its not a story that you keep writing it without headings. I mean first you write an introduction then you come to the body of the essay; who will tell the examiner where the outline ends and the body starts? Even in the body of the essay first suppose i wrote abt the rights of women in islam, then i wrote the duties of women in islam. If headings are not used then everything would get mixed up. Isn't it??
