Regarding Quotes in Islamiat and other papers.
 

Salam folks, was wondering how you quote ayas and hadith in Islamiat paper, do you right the number of the surah and ayat after the quote? do they need to be precisely quoted or you can mention them in general?

and in cases of hadith, do you mention bukhari, volume etc?

Plus I wanted to ask, in Essay paper, what quotes are preffered? literary quotes or religious or a mixture of both?

Plus can you write roman urdu quotes in English papers?

If you can remember the name of Ayat and Surah it will be like icing on the cake other wise just writing down " Irshad-e-Bari Tallah" in case of Urdu or any thing like "Allah lays down in Quran" and the relevant quotations will suffice.

Any quote which corresponds with the the idea in the paragraph or the over all topic is acceptable. But try to avoid controversial figures.

Please avoid writing urdu in English Essay at any cost.

Mr. Mumtaza Hayat Maneka has guided you well about your query. here i want to convey my personal experience. I attempted Islamiat Paper 2009 wihtout any quotation or mentoining any Ayath. I secured 63 marks. I focused on current questions n tried to write as more headings as i could. In Essay Paper I wrote only one quote n got 47 which is not bad. :) In my personal opinion you must focus on the rules of Essay. :king then there will be very little chances on failure. In Essay ur quotes should be according to the topic and situation. don't try to accommodate quotes just for formality. it must hve a sense and according to the occasion.

Shali bhai, how is it possible to score in Islamiat without quoting Islam?

I cant really comprehend this, Religion is not a subjective issue entirely, you can not just form opinions in Religion, specially not Islam, you have to quote, you have to prove, you have to interpret from something, how could you write so much and score without quoting any thing from the Quran or Hadith?

I second shali's point.It is not mandatory to fill your essay or any other topic with excessive quotes.Quotes are just to add more weight in what we are saying.but the examiner wants our views.So, we should try to give our own thoughts.That is what I learnt from my first experience.

Let me tell you that I scored 56 in Islamyat (given my preparation I deem it a good score).Believe me I was not at all prepared for this paper.I only wrote my own arguments and I scarcely used quotations. I don't deny that fact that relevant quotes and citing is helpful in fetching good marks but irrelevant quotes won't help at all.

My teacher once told me not to impress the examiner by inserting too many quotations and citing.better Write your own ideas and arguments.He was right and my experience also proved this.

This is my personal observation,you may disagree. ;)

Its not about disagreement Oriental bhai, I simply dont understand what you mean by opinions and arguments in Islamiat, you can not argue, you can not give your opinions solely, you have to show and talk about everything in the light of the given injunctions, and to do that, you need to quote and cite, you cant just go on constructing arguments without citations, not in Islamiat atleast, please elaborate with the help of a sample paragraph or two, to show what you mean by arguing without citations and quoting from Quran and Hadith. Thank you.

First i gave the introductin thn discussed the main topic. i eleborated my question with the help of headings thn i prologed the topic with the help of headings. like what methods: i gave headings, role of ulema, steps shud be taken by govt. , responsibility of parents, role of media, etc. i applied this method to all questions.

Hmm, but this question Shali bhai asks for your opinion, but if a question comes on Women in Islam, subjugated or not, etc, how are you going to go about it without any quotations?

it depends on a person. i am dull in craming quotes thts why i can't memorise things by heart i rely on my personal ideas which i get after study. about this question i will write in simple words about the status of women given by Islam and will compare them with west n condition of women in Jahiliya Period.
