@NASR KHAn
congratulations on your success!
So you have an edge of being qualifer of the written portion....
Here are the questions which i like to ask from you...
1)What are the pre-requisites to become a smart worker? I mean which qualities you are emphasing for?
2)"English Essay" is a nightmare for me(though i never seriously prepared it yet even after failure of css2011) and i am curious to know your strategy?
I am afraid of writing and you can say very moody in writing practice...what should i do?

Impatiently waiting for your comments & suggestions.

trust me, i know (once upon a time i missed allocation by a whisker)

i hope i am not declared persona non grata it was a heartfelt gesture..
Brother Wali i think this thread is about sharing experience and secondly if you feel that all members who qualified css-2011 are posting just to brag about their success then you are at mistake as far as i have experienced this forum is just like a family we have been answering queries of each other even before result
in any examination everyone uses different methods and by chance if any method, trick proved useful ,is it a crime to share it?
your advice is most welcome, here is a one from my side .......search the forum and see daily how many queries are answered ,discussion answered. not everybody answering is a csp if someone is willing o answer or share something we should appreciate not criticize

Work done in opposite direction of mind is called hard work. Never force your mind to do what it doesn't want to do, instead, let it make avenues for you. I followed this strategy in my preparations. My mind said, "let us watch how Shoaib Akhtar is going to bowl to Jayawardinay", I said, "OK boss!". Next day it was my mind that helped me to recall those facts about Plastics which I had studied some 6 years back.
So, I believe, one should never put his brain under the burden of chores, it may get crashed. Many may not agree with me yet its my method.

Honestly speaking i prepared in the month of FEBRUARY only for my 2011 attempt as i was working with a multinational pharma company n resigned from there in FEB. I had a very perfect planning as i was v short of time. i strictly followed my plan n Allah has showered his blessings upon me.

i want to add few things here. one must work smart NOT hard but the most important things r perfect planning with perfect execution, prayers of parents and friends and most importantly the POSITIVITY.

all this result into the ultimate success as we all admit the role of LUCK in css n i believe that these things r collectively called as ur luck.

i wish everyone a very best of luck for their success but remember FOR CSS DO SMART WORK NOT HARD WORK. This is wut i believe in...

best of luck

For 2011 I came back to Pakistan in the end of Nov and I still had assignments pending for my MSc, started my new job in Jan (with a head of department who deliberately wouldn’t let me study in free time). 4 days before the last date for submitting documents I was confused between choosing sociology and agriculture (later went with former).

I remember that I stated preparing for the exams 2 days before the essay paper and my father was enthusiastically giving me in depth information and statistics about the electricity crisis while I was sadly thinking I was going to let him down big time again this time as I had zero preparation . I hadn't even given a read to most of the optionals let alone finish them once.

But the papers were a breeze for me (thank god) and I didn’t feel lethargic (in fact I slept ALOT during the paper breaks). In 2009 i was at my wits end and halfway through the exam wanted to jump off the roof but 2011 went swiftly. So, once the papers ended I had no doubt in my mind that I was going to inshallah pass (and my intuition turned out to be true).

So I would like to second Mr. Nasr Khan’s opinion that CSS is about smart work and that a lot of it depends on luck. I don’t know what’s in store for me and whether I would qualify in the end or not but I am very happy with the fact that I passed the written portion and the encouragement and appreciation shown by my friends and family (especially my dad) on my result has really made me happy.

Default My 1st Attempt - And My 'Successful' Attempt

It was my first attempt and Alhumdullilah I have qualified the written part without having joined any academy. Few things that I believe helped me through this are:

1. True determination and motivation
2. Studying smartly, not necessarily extensively - I prepared in the last 3 months only
3. Smart selection of questions
4. Special attention to prepare MCQs
5. Highly developed writing skills

Good luck to all the CSS-2012 aspirants. Do pray for my success in interview! Thanks!

P.S I hope my post helps!

Thanks a lot for your kind words. Sure, I am here to help!
A little intro of myself – I am an English Literature and Applied Linguistics major from Peshawar University. I have worked as a lecturer in English for two years. However, I currently work as a freelance writer for an American writing firm (online). I have always been a position holder throughout my academic life, so if you are wondering on the ‘three months’ preparation time!

1. Very simple – have an undaunted faith in Allah and the abilities that he has bestowed you with. Walk to the mirror and tell yourself you can conquer the world . While studying, think about all the good things you could do for your country in a capacity of a CSP officer. Feel excited and tell yourself, this is your only chance!
2. Don’t study each and every topic that you come across – though, reading through everything could be a great strategy. I would study 8 hours a day with full concentration. Try to practice old year papers to see the nature of questions and notice the recurring stuff. Watch TV to revitalize your mind – don’t consider it a taboo, like most studious students would do. However, those 8 hours that you have for study – concentrate fully and don’t let your mind bug around on anything irrelevant. Keep your cell off – The biggest source of distraction on earth!
3. While you sit for paper – read the entire paper thoroughly. Bear in mind two things: ~ What questions you know well ~ What questions look scoring to you. Now, while the first one is easy to do, it needs smartness to have a go on the second one. This is especially applicable for EDS – go for questions with solid marks. For instance, the ones those ask you to give examples or abbreviations. (If you know what I mean!) If you are wondering, what made me think this – told you I have been a lecturer, so simply using my experience.
4. ‘MCQs’ is the part where you can grab most marks – so it is wise to spend some time preparing them. Don’t leave them for the last day. Examination schedule is hectic – so do it beforehand. Use exam cram series, Jahangir series and even dogar. Tell me your subjects?
5. Strong writing skills can assist you big time. You are not given straightforward questions like those you had in college exams or so. These are often sculpted out to check your ability to put them effectively into writing. As for me, I am a freelance writer so it wasn’t much of a thing for me. Work on it by reading English newspapers and practicing questions from old papers. Develop a smooth flow in writing – MUST!

If any more questions, feel free to ask. Thanks! Best of luck and pray for my interview please – much appreciated!
