Misfortune or something else ??grand total 668 but 36/40 in essay -

I appeared in CSS exams for the first time. Worked real hard. Practised like anything and scored 668 marks over all. But unfortunately, i failed the essay exams scoring 36/100. I dont know what went wrong, i am still unable to accept the failure in essay.

Sister
you are right but you know a friend of mine who has scored 650 has a merit number of 50. I am really unable to accept the result, something must have gone wrong with the essay paper being checked.
Foreign services was my passion and i was almost there, just 4 marks....

I dont know of what year you are referring to, but there is no hard and fast rule that a person scoring 650 can land at merit number 50....

You would really worked hard, but its luck as well dear, dont loose heart. Last year, a friend had scored 690 with 34 marks in essay!...

Dont loose heart and prepare well for the next year, i do pray you get it. Simultaneously remember, css is not end of life, lot of good opportunities exist in civil services even without being a csp :)

this year ... my collegue who scored 650 holds a merit number 50 and my total is 668 but 36/100 in essay. I didnt do bad at all. Essay was my strength. I have not lost heart yet, as believe in the fate written by Allah is in our iman. Alhumdolillah, i am living a good life with a career in engineering and working abroad, but due to patriotism in my blood i decided to opt a career in CSS. And i do have an attitude to try and try again even if its trying a 1000 times

i would also like to comment on it.in 2008 a candidate named sheikh sohaib zafar scored 764 with english 38.believe me but he did not loose heart and in 2009 he stood 11th overall .you should not think that by scoring 668 you can be allocated in foreign services because in 2009 my dear friend jamshed iqbal roll no 6018 from d g khan scored 867/1500 could not be allocated.

I am just talking about the written part exam. Sorry if i sounded that i am talking about theory and viva. I am all positive to come back and fight. But the cirscumstances in which i am right now are quite odd for me to be a full time student. I am a full time working engineer, i already resigned last year to take CSS exams, i hope i get my annual leave to come back and take exams. And i have confirmed from a FPSC teacher, my theory total makes me amongst top 50 students.
Being a human, reaching upto a good score and still failing from a short margin looks un acceptable, but then faith demans to accept it and move on.

@sarfarosh...
kindly confirm again with your FPSC teacher as 668 marks this year would not be amongst the top 50 candidates this time...i say this on my experience...i scored 662 marks this year but islamiat did the damage for me...i got 34...css is all about hardwork but luck also plays a vital role...so dont loose hope and appear again with full dedication inshaAllah u'll get through this time...:-)...

I am repeating my suggestion which i gave in this forum and in dawn letter to the editor about reforms in css exam.A screening test in the form of english essay be introduced and those candidates who clear this screening test should be eligible for remainig papers.This can shorten the result declaration for written test to 3-4 months ,as less than 1000 candidates will become eligible for other papers. optional subjects should be done away with as they have made css a numbers game, in contrast to test of originality.THE latter is largely the function of compulsory subjects.
