Default 29 Minutes (my css viva experience, 2011)

The 29 Minutes Federal Public Service Commission gave me were the most unforgettable moments of my life. Every minute, in fact every second is preserved in my memory and I want to keep it that way. Hence, I am sharing it here.

SAUD GOHAR

Being a business graduate and an ex-job hunter, I was confident of my interview giving abilities. And I always had friends whose lauds where enough to take my confidence to a level above. I prepared hard, but for CSS interview it was never enough and that I realized during the interview. It was something different to what one can think of. They were not polite and treated me like nobody and never agreed to what I said. However, I always feel honored that they were judging me to take part in deciding the future of the country.

The prestigious panel included Ex-Justice Supreme Court Rana Bhagwan Das, Retired IG Balochistan Saud Gohar and M. Main.

May 2, 2012

RANA BHAGWAN DAS

Draped in a very formal Grey Suit I was ready to leave for the interview by 7:30am. We reached there earlier then the prescribed time and after a nervous wait of 2 hours the bell rang and it was my turn. The mirror outside the room and the touching advice of the clerk to recite Darood Pak made me calmer.

I entered 10:33 am

Rana Bhagwandas welcomed me and gave my introduction to the panel. He asked about my degree and my job. No signs of being impressed were found.

Out of a million questions asked in Psychological test, held 3 months prior to interview, he asked me about the question which said what will I do different if I was reborn. No answer would have satisfied him, in his views it was not to be answered as Islam doesn’t have any concept of rebirth. So it was an IQ tester. Very gracefully I accepted that I am dumb.

After that, the ride was very interesting; whenever I seemed to have a hold on the path they simply changed the direction. Literally, the questions on the topics I was answering well were cut without me being completed my reply, and at those which I stuck they grilled me quite significantly. During my interview my favorite answer was a Sorry.

Throughout my interview they showed no interest in me, they made me feel like I might have cleared the CSS written part in a fluke and doesn’t deserve to be there. The height was when Rana Bhagwan Das went out of the room for five minutes and those gestures I can never forget.

Interview ended and I was out of the room fully confused and upset. As the interview didn’t go that well it was then a long wait until the result is announced. However somewhere in my heart I felt that my interview wasn’t that bad and all they were doing were the pressure tactics. Well I guess, I could not have hoped for anything else then.

Exit time: 11.02am

May 31st, and the result was in my favor, the Almighty heard the prayers of everyone who loved me and grand me the most prestigious opportunity to change things. I got 3rd position in Sindh (U). However, irrespective of the result, the CSS interview is something one can never forget; very few get a chance to be in front of the praiseworthy panel, and Alhamdulillah I was among the blessed ones.

Well to be very precise i think you need to do smart work, instead of hard work only. Remain focus, try to be as much consistent as you can. I had made a schedule and i use to follow it strictly. And during the papers read the questions very carefully answer it to the point, dont beat around the bush.

May any moderator arrange this thread beautifully by mentioning Optional subjects, Preferences, Interview marks, Merit Number, Allocated Group, and deleting unnecessary posts? (May be the one who himself is preparing for Interview). Over to you, Mods.

What was the highest score in interview this year? I thought interview score would not exceed 230 or 240 but u r saying that 280 and 275 have been achieved by some candidates.Do have any proof for ur claim? plz share it.

This year highest score seems to be 232 scored by Mir Reza Ozgen (2nd Position Holder in CSS 2011).

Aitzaz Ahmad might be talking about previous years when such high scores might have been awarded. I also know a candidate (CSS topper) named Akif from 9th common who scored 271 marks in interview. His overall score was 1007.
