My interview was conducted on the 18th and it was a disaster of epic proportions (ironically it was a piece of cake compared to what the candidates here had to go through). Never the less, here’s what the asked me.

Mr. Bhagwan Daas:

- Introduced me and then asked me the reason I wanted to shift from medical to foreign service
- Asked me why the maddrassas are creating jihadi’s (or something of that sort..anyways I gave a vague answer)
- Asked me whether religion should play a role in the state law/affairs (I said ‘yes’ and that it is inevitable because we are living in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan)
- Talked about my psychological performa and why I attributed negative qualities to the youth (I said I didn’t remember what I wrote). Said that my grammar and vocabulary is good but my writing is awful and that I need to improve my handwriting (I said it’s too late for that now sir). Also was a bit peeved at why I wrote in my father and uncle’s designation in the near relatives details (I said I’m sorry and I didn’t know and he said that you should know if you’re going to join foreign service).
- Asked me about the global zero
- UN organisations and whether UN was a successful or not?
- Whether army should be removed from siachein
- Suez Canal and the strait of Homruz and whether Iran will go through with its threats
- Asked me which country I would like to be assigned to if I’m selected to foreign service ( I said America and he asked why to which I reply because that’s where the action is (how lame))
- Asked me which countries I have been to
- Asked me about diplomatic immunity
- Asked me about the decisions made in the BRICS summit
- Asked me about the energy crisis in detail (my dad was in WAPDA)

Mr Saud Gohar:

- Pakistan says that it has championed the cause of muslim ummah do you agree
- Difference between white collar and corporate crime
- X and Y theory of management
- Why china is devaluing its currency (I was right yet he said that I was way off)
- New hydal projects
- Gomal zam river/ dam

Mr Ahmed Mian:

- The doctor patient ratio in Pakistan
- GDP allocation to health
- Conflict theory
- Inverted pyramid in journalism
- First printing press in the subcontinent
- Leadership styles
- Was PEMRA able to regulate the media
- Devolution and health sector

I think I may have set a record of chanting “I’m sorry sir” in 30 mins. Once Mr. Bhagwan Daas’s turn was over he acted completely disinterested in the rest of my viva (although his was the part that I did good in). The panel seemed completely disinterested in me (there were no warm vibes of any sort although I did manage to make Mr Bhagwan Daas smile on 2 occasions). Anyways, I’m just hoping they like my personality or maybe pay more focus to my excellent communication skills (even if I do say so myself). I’m just glad that its over and that I would NEVER have to read a newspaper again.

Here are the details of my interview held on the 17th of April’ 12 at Peshawar Center.

My optional subjects: Indo-Pak History, Journalism, Sociology, and Psychology.
I am an English Literature and Applied Linguistics major from Peshawar University, and I am currently working as a freelance writer. So, here I go…

1
He asked me why I had answered the rebirth question in the proforma… I tried to be a little witty by stating that as a writer it is my job to be imaginative, so I imagined to have been born again. But, he wasn’t quite impressed… hehe

His focus was on Psychology, English Literature and general knowledge. He asked things related to psychosis and neurotic disturbances, as well as different terms of Psychology… such as Alzheimer’s diseases, schizophrenia, and forgetfulness.
Details about straits and seas – their locations and importance.
He even asked me about several important English writers and poets.
General questions like why do I wish to join the civil services and what change I could possibly bring to the system?
Questions about freelance writing, my writing interest, and my published book.
Current security situation, why and how to solve?

2
Current situation of the Palestine and Israel issue. How do I foresee it and what suggestions I have to solve the long-standing issue?
Current status of the Egypt issue...How it started, what’s currently going on and how do I foresee it and why.
Questions about different genres of literature. Which one do I like the most and why? How do I view poetry and prose? Plus, about different eras of English Literature and their importance… a healthy discussion ensued, once I began to put forth my views etc.
There were a few more questions from him that I cannot recall at the moment… will make sure I update my thread.

3
Foreign debt of Pakistan? External and internal.
Foreign Remittance
Trade deficit
Tax percentage
Shakespearean age and its importance… restoration, Augustan age etc.
Coleridge and Wordsworth – how are they different or similar.
PCNS report and all the details related to it.

Need to give my head a big shake!!! I am missing out a number of questions… I will update the thread when the forgotten stuff pops in...

Good luck!!
Wish you success

Can you please tell in detail about the questions they asked regarding english literature ? Like as you said they asked about several english writers & poets,do you remember the names ?

Are you free lance writer on internet or where ?

what is subject of your published book? what questions did they ask regarding it?

when they asked for the comparison between coleridge & wordsworth, did it lead to discussion or they just relied on your point of view ?

I hope you will be kind enough to answer me

Structural Model (id, ego, superego)

According to Freud, we are born with our Id. The id is an important part of our personality because as newborns, it allows us to get our basic needs met. Freud believed that the id is based on our pleasure principle. In other words, the id wants whatever feels good at the time, with no consideration for the reality of the situation. When a child is hungry, the id wants food, and therefore the child cries. When the child needs to be changed, the id cries. When the child is uncomfortable, in pain, too hot, too cold, or just wants attention, the id speaks up until his or her needs are met.

The id doesn't care about reality, about the needs of anyone else, only its own satisfaction. If you think about it, babies are not real considerate of their parents' wishes. They have no care for time, whether their parents are sleeping, relaxing, eating dinner, or bathing. When the id wants something, nothing else is important.

Within the next three years, as the child interacts more and more with the world, the second part of the personality begins to develop. Freud called this part the Ego. The ego is based on the reality principle. The ego understands that other people have needs and desires and that sometimes being impulsive or selfish can hurt us in the long run. Its the ego's job to meet the needs of the id, while taking into consideration the reality of the situation.

By the age of five, or the end of the phallic stage of development, the Superego develops. The Superego is the moral part of us and develops due to the moral and ethical restraints placed on us by our caregivers. Many equate the superego with the conscience as it dictates our belief of right and wrong.

In a healthy person, according to Freud, the ego is the strongest so that it can satisfy the needs of the id, not upset the superego, and still take into consideration the reality of every situation. Not an easy job by any means, but if the id gets too strong, impulses and self gratification take over the person's life. If the superego becomes to strong, the person would be driven by rigid morals, would be judgmental and unbending in his or her interactions with the world. You'll learn how the ego maintains control as you continue to read.

Personality is the particular combination of emotional, attitudinal, and behavioral response patterns of an individual. Different personality theorists present their own definitions of the word based on their theoretical positions

Personality psychology is a branch of psychology that studies personality and individual differences. Its areas of focus include:
Constructing a coherent picture of the individual and his or her major psychological processes
Investigating individual differences — how people are unique
Investigating human nature - how people are alike

Hey Farrah! I sure am kind enough to address your queries
Yes! You just need to know about all important writers and their important works. I was asked about my favorite ones from Romantic age, so I went for John Keats and Wordsworth.. named my favorite poems. From Augustan age I mentioned Alexander Pope. It's easy, If you are a literature student. No complicated questions as such so don't worry!!

I am an online plus offline freelance writer. They asked me about my niches and so on... My published book is an anthology of poems. They asked me about the publisher... when I told them it was in the US.. they asked me about the exact location ...

Na that comparison thing was more like my personal opinion. However, the interviewer kept adding small questions to it as I moved on with it. Questions like 'how exactly?'.. 'which poem'.. etc.. Hope I make sense to you!!!

If there is any way I could help you more, feel free to ask...!!!

Hey!!!
Yup! They would ask you general questions about your writing... like your writing niche and why do you enjoy writing it. Very general stuff that needs no preparation as such. They would even ask you where and for whom you write... so make sure you remember the newspapers or site names there at that time...

My answer to "How you will handle political pressure?"

sir i will use delaying tactics. if any politician will come in my office then i put in-front of him the list of rules, sir u want this......... while rules say this......... media is very strong let, if it leaks out in media then your reputation will be on sake and my job too....... Bhagwan Dass interrupted by saying that........ politicians are not free that thy come to visit your office........ let if any pick the phone and ordered you to do it and immediately shut the phone down then what will you do?........... i answered i stick to my delaying tactics and linger on the case and take my seniors and immediate boss in confidence. Bhagwan Dass interrupted again......... if you do so the you will be transferred after every 10 days.... then what will you do? i said....... sir, no doubt in police there is ever building political pressure, which can't be overshadowed and eliminated, however, it can be maintained by using delaying tactics and by lingering the case. moreover if any body remain honest then he must face problems like transfer with courage. he seem satisfy from my answer..........
