Now, preparation strategy:

1 day of mine stands for 8-10 hours with 1.5 hours break for meal, playing with my daughter etc.

1. Focused more on subject which can give more marks. Such as in compulsories, I gave 3 full days to EDS and 1 full day to Composition. [4 days]

2. Gave 1 full day to Essay and prepared only Energy Crisis. Gathered all facts and figures on the internet.

3. Gave a half day to Pak Affairs and 1.5 to Islamiyat. [2 days]

4. Gave full 4 days to Current Affairs (which still hurts as the paper came totally unexpected and I knew only 1.5 questions out of 4 )

Now towards optionals

1. Gave 2 full days to Geography Paper I and 1 day to Paper II.

2. 1 full day to Forestry

3. 1 full day to Statistics.

4. 1 full day to Journalism

One full day for the purchasing of books and other related material.

Most of the books that I bought contained errors and became a terrible headache for me, so it became a nightmare for me to prepare through them. Thanks to the internet I managed to correct a few critical mistakes and go on.

Please note that these 18 days include only those before the start of Exam. It does include the 15 days of Exams, which gave me additional time to prepare in case of Off days. For Instance I had almost 3 days off in Business Admin so prepared the entire subject in that. Moreover, I got 2 additional day offs in Forestry so continued my preparation in that

Moreover, I did not read the entire books. I went with selective study. I studied few topics thoroughly, gave other important topics a mere glance and left a few altogether .

Baaqi, as I said CSS is heavily dependent on luck, so my belief in this statement got strengthened with the outcome.

But in case of Viva, I did prepare for more than a week regarding various Current issues and their facts. However, I met a domestic tragedy a day before my Viva but thanks to Allah Almighty, all is well that ends well .

One more thing, I was never afraid of failing in CSS 2012. Despite I knew it was not, I still forced myself to look upon CSS 2012 written as just another exam in my life and had committed with myself not to let this fear of failure overcome my preparation time.
Wow Astonishngly Smart work favoured with immence luck !

dear seniors, hope you'll be fine.
My question: do you think preparing notes of various subjects is that much helpful as it is thought of... Or it is a mere waste of time and energy. Energy in a sense that it takes too much time to extract material from books and then to pen down on separate sheets followed by memorizing it. Waiting for a satisfactory response.
Regards

Preparing notes is a good exercise depending on how much time you are left with. Further, preparing notes to have in ONE place all the relevant and attractive material, will help a lot but one should avoid cramming even then. However, headings and important phrases / sentences must be memorized, so that nothing necessary is left out and all crucial aspects of the topic are comprehensively covered.

Default I think notes should be made if one has time.

Dear, depends upon the time you have at your disposal. Since I did not have much time in both of my attempts, I went through books only. But if you have reasonable time, say 6 months or so, then yes. Its a good exercise because while making notes, you tend to have a fair idea of things. So when you revise, it becomes easier to recall. Plus you can well understand your own style of writing while it becomes difficult to get along with every writing style.

The by-product of this exercise is that your writing speed increases which is of great importance in current CSS style of papers. Due to my slow writing speed, I missed a 10 marks numerical of Stats. Had I scored those 10 marks, I would have landed up somewhere near Merit # 100 and got IRS, Cantonment or Accounts .

So I think if you have time, do prepare some.
