@ iman khan:
My two pence:
Flawless English --that's the basic ingredient for passing the written exam as 98% of the candidates flunk in either essay or composition.
I didn't study a single day for Islamiat and current affairs and prepared notes for Pak affairs from 6 different books. Result :
Islamiat: 67
Current affairs: 42
Pak affairs:40
In optionals, US history was an utter fiasco: left 30 marks unattempted. Pushto was my only paper from which I was satisfied, my best attempt. Result:
US history: 41
Pushto: 43
So dear, its an unpredictable exam with unpredictable result.
To conclude, if there is one thing that can make you get through this exam is ENGLISH.
PS: my very personal experience, I can be cent percent wrong.

Zarun:
I think it's not an appropriate thread to talk about improving one's English. May be other users who are following this thread are looking for motivation, and they won't like to read something regarding English.
Anyway, I'm myself not an authority on this subject but I think what made me pass these two papers was my childhood habit of reading.
Work on basic grammar, the grammar we were taught in high school would I suffice. Mistakes can be overlooked but not BLUNDERS. So learn basic English grammar so that you can avoid mistakes like: " I want to GIVE CSS exam" we don't give, we take exams. The problem is that we have a habit of thinking in Urdu -- mein CSS ka exam DEYNA Chatha hoon" and then translate it.
Alright comrades, I know I'm dwelling on trivialities.
Zarun bro, just visit the thread labelled ENGLISH and post your queries. There you'll find advice from gurus, not naieves like me.

Core ingredient to me, is LUCK. . As far as human input is concerned, it is the appropriate subject selection, careful analysis of paper pattern, studying few topics in detail, and having an overview of the rest. Last but the the most important, it is to overcome your fear of failure.

If you want to pursue CSS as a career, then what are you waiting for... . Go for it and be amongst the youngest CSPs ever

1) read the book of ikram rabbani for pak affaits 02 readings
2) 8-10 topics for essay(though never practiced writing)
3) for sociology gave 02 readings to Taga book
4) for eds read the book of kashmiri 2-3 times plus past papers
5) for urdu read Urdu general by Jahangir's 02 times
6) did not bother even going thru the syllabus of accounting. Prepared everything in 4 days which i got during exams.
7) didnt have reading material for current affairs so just contended with few artivles that were there on css forum.
8) for journism i went thru the book of mufti twice
9) read the headings and tried to memorize some verses and Ahadees from Ilmi's book. Devoted one full day to this subject a couple of days before exams.

Thats all.....went for exam and by just Allah's blessing got 720 marks in written. Viva ruined mr and i got 163. Now at 118 in the merit....
My advice to all the aspirants is that plz take css as an exam, keep your nerves in control anf leave everything to Allah. I shall always be thankful to Almighty for everything that i achoeved. My good reading skill did wonders for me.
Regards,
+aminshah
wish both of you 'best of luck' for your future.

luck doesnot favour everyone. anyone who prepared for exam in short time like in 3 months means that person is not only extremly lucky but also he/she possess very good writing skills and command in english generally.
dont feel bad about your result just study hard for the next time.
