If you don't fall under the category of age relaxation, you are left with only 2 attempts now. If you skip CE16 , you will be left with only one attempt, i.e CE16.

By CE-17's cut-off (31st Dec 2016) you'll be 27 years 2 months 13 days old, this will be your last chance without claiming age relaxation. So you have CE-16 and CE-17 left to take that means no gap, if you skip CE-16 you'll have only one chance left that is CE-17. JazakAllah
