Asalam O Alaikum..

I'm a Doctor. Have Completed my MBBS. I always had the desire of giving at least a single attempt of CSS. So finally, I made up my mind and have just start preparing for CE-2017.

The thing that is making me confused is about selecting optionals. According to my academic background, I've to select two familiar subjects, Psychology and Zoology. I had the confusion between International Law and Criminology but as most of the people say that if you are opting IR, IL will be quite easy then. Now remains only one subject. And I'm confused between History of Indo Pak and History of USA. I've heard people saying that USA History syllabus is small and can be easily covered whereas Indo Pak history can be supported by Pakistan Affairs (Compulsory subject). Which is more better and easy and most importantly high scoring?

I want sincere suggestions and advises regarding my confusion so that I can be able to take a final decision.

1. IR
2. IL
3. Zoology
4. Psychology
5. Indo Pak History OR History of USA (Confused)

P.S: Other suggestions are also welcomed regarding optionals

bro indo pak is btter as it will help you out in pak affairs

I've heard from other candidates that Indo-Pak helps out in Pakistan studies but US History's syllabus is shorter.
I went for European History and still haven't been able to finish the syllabus, but its helping a lot in IR.

Ultimately, its your choice.

I am applying for CSS 17 but confused in opting US History Vs Indo Pak History. Wanted to select Indo Pak as it helps in PA/CA but it is said that indo pak does not score good.
Please advise.

Can you please explain how European history is helping in IR? And I think European history is a bit lengthy.. Is it true?

European history is lengthy so please have a good look at the syllabus before starting it.

It helps in IR because many of its topics are common with IR's second part, e.g. League of Nations, Bolshevik Revolution, Fascism, Interwar period, WW2, Period after war, Cold War, etc.

But I stress again, European history's syllabus is extensive even after fpsc decided to reduce its syllabus from 2016 onwards, I only chose it because I was quite interested in it and had some prior knowledge, but it still took me about 20-25 days to wrap it up(still the last topics remaining though).


This is why I said that ultimately its your choice so take a good hard look at every course's syllabus before going for anything.

I want suggestions from senior members about my subject selection i have science background with BS(CS) and selected subjects:
International relations
Sociology
Muslim law and jurispudence
Islamic history and culture
Public Administration
Its all because of my interest subject and high scoring as all said that sociology and IR are really very high scoring subjects rather then Indo pak. So is it good combination plz reply.

I am a Microbiologist and blogger but after analyzing recent result turn out, I am going to change my mind to appear in CSS 2017 exam. My optional subjects were.

History of Pak and India
Psycology
Zoology
Town planning
Philosphy
Geology.

You mostly opted somehow difficult and low scoring subjects , leaving aside psychology your all subjects are low scoring so you have to work on your optionals
