Default Newbie!! Need help in subject selection and prep

Hi! I want to appear for Css-18 and need guidance in selection of optional subjects. I've done Bsc in electrical engineering and so far here are the recommendations I have received
1. International relations
2. Gender Studies
3. Sociology
4. Physics OR Us History+ Journalism
I'm super confused as I have technical background and no previous knowledge about IR and GS or any of that stuff but people say its more about scoring than anything else. Also I've been told that IR and Journalism will help with current affairs and GS and Sociology are overlapping so It would be easier to prepare! I will have to start from scratch for all of these subjects. Please suggest if Physics is better than Us History+Journalism
Help would be much appreciated please and thankyou!
