what are the things that should be taken to the hall? is a writing pad needed? Also, the roll no slip says to visit the hall before exam? what does that mean

Writing pad is not required.
ID card along with roll no slip is necessary. Do not forget either of these. You won’t be allowed to take the exam if you do.

Choice of stationary depends on the individual. I would take multiple blue and black pointers to write and a ruler to draw margins etc. Again this is a personal choice.

Visiting the hall is suggested so that you know how to get there and have an idea how long it takes etc. If you are familiar with the hall location, there is no need to visit.
