Default Chairman FPSC Meets President Zardari

President Asif Ali Zardari Friday appreciated the role of Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) in selecting competent and qualified persons for the public service.

The President was talking to Chairman FPSC Malik Asif Hayat who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadar and presented him the FPSC's annual report-2012.

Spokesperson to President, Senator Farhatullah Babar said President Zardari emphasized merit-based selection and recruitment, and added that the FPSC had a vital role in this regard.

Chairman FPSC Malik Asif Hayat highlighted the role of FPSC in maintaining a strict adherence to merit, while ensuring transparency and fair competition.

He said as per the government policy, equitable regional representation had also been ensured under quota policy of the government which calls for participation from all provinces and regions.

He also underlined the importance of the Commission's work in advising the President and the Government of Pakistan on matters relating to qualification for different posts in BPS-16 to 22 and their methods of recruitment.

The President appreciated Chairman Malik Asif Hayat, members and staff of the FPSC for pursuing with devotion their responsibilities towards merit based selection and recruitment.

The FPSC report covers the functions, activities observations and recommendations of the Commission for the last calendar year focusing on the recruitment carried out by the FPSC during 2012.

According to the report, the main responsibility carried out by the Commission was to select about 240 officers of the Central Superior Services for which more than 14,000 candidates applied and more than 10,000 appeared for the examination.

The report also mentions recruitment to technical and professional positions through an elaborate process involving examinations, tests and interviews.

More than 134,000 applications were processed and after several stages about 1,000 candidates were recommended for appointment to different Government departments, organizations and agencies.

The Commission also conducted final passing-out examinations of CSS probationers in 12 occupational groups and services.
