I am also in search of the same quest. Up till now what i have learnt is to read newspaper and strengthen Current Affairs along with of course necessary communication skills. But could not get a clear cut solution of the problem.
I plan to visit some people tomorrow Inshallah and will try to post everything here what i can get from their experience.

@2012 written qualifiers:

Any member who wants guidance in term of viva preparation, psychological or medical test, they can contact me. My cell number is given in my profile.

@ Rabiaaslam and all qualifiers:

Interview preparation k lie sb se pehle aap C.affairs ko tyar karna start karo.
Divide your time in terms of weeks.
One week for current affairs plus Pak affairs,
one week for optional subjects,
one week for psycholigcal test preparation.
One week for quiz type questions.
One week for mock interviews.

In current affairs you should cover Middle East, Pak-U.S. relations, Iran-US relations,
China-US relations, Sino-Soviet relations, Afghan issue and its history, Palestine issue, International organisations, Burmese crisis, Pak-India detente, Balochistan issue, Arab Spring and its aftermath.

First of all finalise your favorite books etc. Psychological test is very important. Give proper well built answers in psychological test.

Autobiography plays and important role in psychological test. Write your autobiography in 8 minutes with lead pencil and practice it. Sentence completion is also very tricky. Make a routine to practice more and more of such stuff on daily basis. Read newspaper daily till the interview day. Keep a register and make key points of current affairs in it. Viva is not a big issue in itself but time management is important.

Members do share your experiences with everyone, no one is going to steal your share of luck. CSS is more about teamwork and courteousness. Seats and power or position is of no use if one is not humble and polite to other fellows.
