Default How to get medical clearance certificate after being provisionally selected by PR?

Medical Examination in Pakistan Railway for grade 1 to 15 posts

1. Go to the P-1 section of office of PR Divisional Superintendent (located 0.5 km away from Cairns Railway Hospital, Alama Iqbal Road, Gari Shahu, Lahore) with the letter you received.

There are four guys working in P-1 section, the head-clerk Muneer, clerk Jilani, a guy with glasses, and a computer operator. Anyone from P-1 section of the DS office will issue you memo and medical fitness form to be filled by Doctor. They will also ask for signature as an acknowledgement that you have received memo. You will have to submit a set of your attested documents along with two photographs, photocopy of medical examination letter received by you, and a file cover. It’s advised to submit photos captured without glasses. Because glasses are not allowed in some categories such as A-1 according to railway medical vision standards.

2. Locate the office of Divisional Medical Officer (DMO) which is near DS office and go to photo-copy shop, located near DMO office, to take three out-patients tickets of Cairns Railway Hospital. Ask the shop-keeper of photo copy shop to provide you papers for medical examination. He will give you three papers (all the three papers will be half of the A4 size paper) which are actually outpatient tickets of Cairns Railway Hospital.

3. Go to DMO office. Don’t wear glasses in DMO office. Meet the clerk Ameer-udin. He will stamp the three out-patient tickets and give back to you. He will ask you to submit one attested set of your documents along with two photographs and will note down your contact number. It’s advised to submit photographs without glasses for aforementioned reason. The three out-patient tickets are for Hepatitis Test, Urine Test, and X-ray / ECG. There will be vision test too in DMO office. Vision might be in conducted first or in last. It depends on the mood of clerk Ameer udin. By the way, the vision test will not be conducted by any eye-specialist. It will be conducted by DMO Javed Iqbal Chowdhary or by his junior. The academic qualification of Javed Iqbal Ch is MBBS and DTCT (Diploma in Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases).

4. Buy the kit for Hepatitis test from medical store. The name of the kit must be written on out-patient ticket. It will cost you around 50 to 60 rupees. Go to Cairns Railway Hospital before 11 am. Medical staff make excuses if go after 11 am for blood and urine test. There are many blocks in Cairns Hospital (admin block, emergency block, x-ray ecg block). First go for ECG and X-ray test in X-ray block which is located near emergency block. You will get your ECG on the spot and will be given a reference number for X-ray on a piece of paper. The X-ray result will take a day.

5. Go to last room on first floor of admin block of the hospital for Urine Test and Hepatitis Test. The blood sample has to be taken in presence of a doctor. So, you might have to wait. But don’t wait more than 2 hours. Meet the Deputy Medical Superintendent or Medical Superintendent of Cairns Hospital and let him know that you are waiting for hours and your blood test is pending because of absence of doctor. MS and Deputy MS office are in Room # 1 and Room # 3 of admin block respectively. The results of Urine and Hepatitis Test will not be given to you. It will be directly sent to DMO office where you will get medical clearance certificate.

6. Get the X-ray result next day and meet the clerk Ameer-udin in DMO office. He will arrange an appointment with DMO or with his junior for vision test. DMO himself or his junior will first test vision and then he will test color blindness. The vision in Pakistan Railways is tested using Landolt C chart. Please visit https://cms.whiterabbitexpress.com/j...hart-tote-bag/ to get idea about Landolt C chart.

The distant vision test will be same as shown in the YouTube video except you will be answering in place of robot.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gxn3WQ0872Y
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-1qD5C6QOo

You will be shown different sizes of C and doctor will ask you from which side the C is open (upwards, downwards, left side, right side)

The distant vision needs to be checked from a distance of 6 meters. But the arrangement at DMO office for vision test is such that the distance is more than 6 meters as per my observation. And there needs to be 200 Watt bulb above the chart. The lighting condition in the room, where vision test is conducted, is also poor.

The standards of vision test are different for each category which can be seen on pages 9 to 12 of this pdf file.
http://www.indianrailways.gov.in/rai...I/Chapter5.pdf

The above standards are of Indian Railways. The medical standards of Pakistan and India are almost same as were before 1947. Further details can be confirmed from Pakistan Railway Medical Manual. Pakistan Railway Medical Manual is available in the office of Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Pakistan Railway, Lahore. The office of the CMO is located in between Railway Headquarters and Cairns Hospital. Just for your information, DMO is subordinate to CMO.

To understand what does 6/6, 6/9, and 6/12 mean, please visit the following pdf file and have a look on page 8
https://www.aci.health.nsw.gov.au/__...n_session3.pdf

If you are able to read last line from a distance of 6 meters, your vision is 6/6.
If you are able to read till second last line from a distance of 6m, your vision is 6/9.
And so forth.

DMO will also check color blindness as shown in YouTube video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWyrp3hu4KE

Please consult with good eye specialist to know whether you qualify the stated vision criteria.

If you don’t meet vision criteria of your concerned category, you can try negotiating with DMO. The negotiating won’t work without reference.

7. After getting clearance certificate from DMO office, submit its photocopy to APO-III office located in Pakistan Railway Headquarters on first floor near non-functional elevator. APO stands for Assistant Personnel Officer. The original clearance certificate will be sent to P-1 section in DS office which will then be forwarded to APO-III office.

8. Concerned officials from Personnel office will send you letter to join Pakistan Railways and report to Walton Railway Academy.
