Default Experience of Psych Test

Hi here goes my experience of psych test held on 3rd/4th May at lahore:

Day 1
The test started at 8.15am. Before, our documents were checked. We were given a typed document containing all the relevant info regarding your education, family, interests, hobbies, group preferences, job experiences if any, references etc. We were to point out any discrepancy if found in that record to set the record straight.
Then a test followed containing 70 items to be attempted in 35 minutes. The test consisted of verbal, arithmetic, and antonyms and synonyms. Then an intelligence test followed containing 36 items to be attempted in 30 minutes. Then a personality test containing 185 statements about yourself followed to be attempted in 30 minutes.
Break of 30 minutes
A test of Analytical reasoning followed to be attempted in 30 minutes. Then we were given a form containing 20 questions about our personality and personal life to be attempted in 20 minutes such as favorite books, favorite personalities (living only), Reforms in css selection process. Then a test of incomplete sentences followed to be attempted in 8 minutes. Then we had to write three stories from the three pictures in 15 minutes (5 minutes each). Then we had to write our autobiography in 8 minutes. Then followed another personality test to be attempted in 5 to 10 minutes containing 30 items. With this, our testing of Day1 came to an end.

Day 2
Our discussion started at about 9.30am in morning.
The topic of urdu discussion was:
"Sarkari mulazmat mei tahfuz ka ahsas aj ke dour key taqazon se mutsadim hei" 12 minutes
The english topic was:
"The verdict of indian government in mumbai attack case is a ploy to tarnish the image of pakistan". 12 minutes

Then command task followed. My task was:
As a cpo, I had to provide security protection to some VIP visiting the area. I have got the info that some people in uniform have a plan to inflict harm on VIP. I can not contact my officers as well as subordinates as they all are out in the field in connection with the security measure for the VIP. Moreover, communication with them is not possible as there were jamming devices working in the area. I had left with 90 minutes. It is hardly possible for me to rearrange the security arrangement already designed.
Other Command tasks were:
1. As VC of a university, present a solution for the unemployed graduates of the university when in agitation, they have destroyed their degrees.
2. As secretary Commerce and trade, how would you improve trade with india and other regional countries.
3. As an officer in Railways, suggest measures to curb the railway accidents.
4. As an officer in the Info Group, how would you negotiate with a newspaper team who is determined to publish some documents which can sabotage the image of pakistan.
5. As an official working in Tourism ministry, how would you attract tourists to pakistan.
After that, we had brief interviews with the psychologists. Some of my group fellows had an interview of 25 minutes, some had of 15 to 20 minutes.
My interview was of 12 minutes. I was asked about:
1. Why do you want to join civil service?
2. How the study of psychology has shaped your life?
3. Application of psychology to myself?
4. What would have been if you had not studied psychology?
5. My education, parents, siblings.
6. Why did not you place psp in your top three preferences?
7. My affair with my wife?
8. My performance on various tests on the 1st day?
9. 18th Amendment
10. The movement of bahawalpur province?
These are the questions that I remember I was asked in interview by the psychological panel.
Please share comments.
Wish all of you for best luck!
Regards.

What is the prevalent dress code for the two days.

And what exactly do we have to write in autobiography. Praise ourself by highlighting achievements?

Default Dress Code

Hi Abdullah Dress Code should pertain to the weather conditions prevailing in one's area as per instructions. That seems desireable. You can be dressed of your own choice on Day 1. It may be casual as you would have no contact with the panel of psychologists. You would remain busy right from 8 am to
around 2pm. However, on Day 2, the trend is for two piece.
You have to write about yourself precisely, and comprehensively in autobiography in 8 minutes either in English or Urdu. I think, excessively praising yourself would be disasterous for your psych report. So be cautious and follow a balanced approach.
Regards.

1st day of psychology is yours as for as your dressing code is concerned. Despite this liberty don’t go with extra casual dress after all it is an exam and dressing does have impact on our minds. You can go with simple paint shirt or Shalwar Kameez . I was in two piece on the first day.
2nd Day of the psychology is theirs as for as your dressing and display is concerned. So follow the interview kit decorum.

You autobiography should be a proper mix of all the major events of your life, your priorities, and future goals. Remain realistic but try to cover massive negative points with diplomatic style. Don’t overact as well as don’t expose your negatives which can project a negative image.
Here is my first draft of autobiography which I intended to write in the psychological phase. You may find some hints for yours from following material:

Fayaz Hussain Shaikh (Roll Number: 2638)

I hail from a small village of Mahrabpur namely Gahi Rahu, District Nuashahro Feroze. My family is predominantly serving in education sector and is a role model for my village. After getting my primary education from Govt. Primary Masjid School Gahi Rahu, I completed matriculation from G.B.H.S.S Mehrabpur, and intermediate in Pre-Engineering from G.H.S.S Hingorja. After completion of B.Com from Govt. Degree college N. Feroze (SALU Khairpur), I did MPA (Finance) from University of Sindh Jamshor and M.A. Economics from SALU Khairpur. I served in ISRA University Hyderabad as lecturer in Management Sciences Department for four months and then after I got inducted in State Bank of Pakistan as an OG-2 in the Banking Inspection Department. During my central banking career I completed DAIBP (Banking Diploma). Before SBP I was selected as AD ISI in ministry of defense.

My achievements include throughout first position starting from primary till masters. I enjoy the unique distinction of achieving STAR AWARD from South Asian Publications (SAP) along with Certificate of Excellence and tile of Leader of the Millennium on account of multiple distinctions in my career and for standing the best teacher in the ISRA University. Besides, I am Gold medalist from social sciences faculty of University of Sindh Jamshoro on account of faculty top. I am recipient of Silver Medal from Public Management Sciences Department on account of department top with ever highest score since its establishment. I am center top in B.Com, center top in M.A. Economics, Sukkur Board top in NED pre-entry test, District top in Intermediate Pre-Engineering, Center top in Matriculation with ever highest score in school since its establishment and recipient of certificate of merit and refreshment from Mr. Moin-Ud-Haider (The then Governor of Sindh), achiever of 80% plus score in president scholarship exam, and center top in Middle standard scholarship exam. Achieved Certificate of Excellence in SAARC Quiz Competition on Radio Pakistan Hyderabad while representing MPA department. Honored with Talent Award by Islami-Jamait-e-Talba Mehrabpur for being the best student of the city.
In addition to it, I am qualifier of Mukhtiyarkar exam 2001 and combined competitive exam 2003 through SPSC, qualifier of GRE test for Indigenous PhD Scholarship program of HEC, recipient of Departmental Commitment Award and various appreciations in my professional life in State Bank of Pakistan where I been promoted to the position of Deputy Director. My area of specialization is anti-money laundering, anti-terrorist financing, frauds and forgeries investigations and tax evasion case dealing, risk recognition & assessment, assessing sufficiency of disaster recovery plan, control environment, control activities, information and communication, and monitoring & correcting deficiencies.

I have learned leading, managing, initiative taking, team work, decision making, concern for detail, analytical thinking, conflict resolving, and grievance handling, and accountability competencies from following factors: Team leading in inspections, CRship of my class throughout my educational career, serving community through “Jakhore” a social welfare association of Mehrabpur, running an academy in my village on honorary basis to teach and physically train my village mates, participating & achieving merit awards in various debate competitions held on inter school as well as on intra-school level (On the occasions of: Independence Day, Latif Day, Sachal Day, Serat-u-Nabi Day ).

Though CSS has remained prime aim in my life but due to professional commitments I could hardly attempt it in 2009. I aspire for DMG based on my acquired skills, coping with grass roots problems of masses, and promising future of this group both in horizontal as well as vertical mobility. Apart from civil service my future endeavors focus on pursuing PhD program in any of the following fields depending upon the needs of my nation and my priorities at that time: Public Finance / Public Planning / Public Administration / Economics. In this way I would be able to play a pivotal role in the planning machinery of Pakistan after perusing PhD while serving in civil service. I wish to see my end in the world of flowers and teaching university students after completion of civil service.

During my early age, gardening and teaching village mates remained my hobbies but I could not continue these after intermediate due to leaving my city. At present my hobbies include net surfing and mentoring CSS aspirants as well as Banking sector job seeking candidates through www.cssforum.com.pk and private e-mails.

Note: You can get some ideas from this autobiography. My final version of autobiography was little bit precise as compared to this one due to shortage of time in the paper.

Regards

Had our Psychological on 2nd and 4th.

1st day had a lot of test, it was quite simple at times and some of the tests were a frenzy on time and seemed monotonous at the end. It was good over all.

2nd day had at first the group discussions.
Our Urdu topic was "kalabagh banna chahiye" and the English one was " Pakistan is facing the worst situation right now"

Group task in our group were
-"As Director EPA how can you create awareness to protect the environment and the endangered wildlife."
-"A prisoner escaped from police custody and the alleged criminal is from a rival sect and sectarian based strikes are taking place, how can you as a police officer pacify the problem"
-"As the head of the Town Municipal Corporation plan a way to use a town hall after you have gained control over it from a private party. Decide who will be allowed to use it and on what terms. What about use by foreigners"
-"As VC of a university, present a solution for the unemployed graduates of the university when in agitation, they have destroyed their degrees."
-"As the DDO(R) create ways to increase the revenue from the area under you"
-"Find ways to improve the recovery of taxes from the land lords of the area, the people use ways to manipulate records of lands, how can we avoid that problem"

Sorry I don't remember the rest of the tasks.
The interview was very general, they asked me;
-Introduction
-Why CSS and not a job instead
-Talibanization and their concept of Islam
-Why the government is not popular in the Tribal Areas
-Who is Mangal Bagh (Khyber Agency)
-Bahrain uprising
-Difference b/w the Bahrain uprising and the Libyan uprising
-Total IMF debt of Pakistan?
-Internal and external debt of Pakistan?
-Energy situation in Pakistan right now?
-What should be our future plan for fulfilling energy crisis?

Strangely they did not ask any personal questons.
Still was quite satisfied with it, Alhamdullilah was calm and logical.
