There is no big diffrence between both but u can defirenciate thorugh this difinition of both.
Mass communication is the term used to describe the academic study of the various means by which individuals and entities relay information through mass media to large segments of the population at the same time. It is usually understood to relate to newspaper and magazine publishing, radio, television and film, as these are used both for disseminating news and for advertising.
Journalism is the investigation and reporting of events, issues, and trends to a broad audience. Although there is much variation within journalism, the ideal is to inform the citizenry. Besides covering organizations and institutions such as government and business, journalism also covers cultural aspects of society such as arts and entertainment. The field includes jobs such as editing, photojournalism, and documentary.
i hope this will serve the prpose

There is just a bit difference between these two would be:

Mass communication is a broader term which includes also Journalism, Advertisement, Anchoring,Radio, Television, Newspaper, magazines whereas

Journalism is about news reading, reporting and writing.

Main component of Journalism is to Communicate the data/information.that is called Communication in Journalism.

There are few types of Communication in journalism.and Mass Communication is one of those types.

Though Mass Communication is a part of the profession journalism,Yet In modern terminology, journalism is called Mass Communication.Because in Mass communication,Modern equipments are used to broadcast news.

Why Mass Communication?

Mass communication is a type of communication in which the information is disseminated to Masses(Large group of people,Whether People are educated or not, means different types of audience) through any medium(Television,Radio,Newspaper,Mobile phone,Internet).

In mass communication,Medium is necessary for communication.

1.Difference lies in the terminology

- Journalism is a broader term, while Mass communication is a specific part of journalism

2. Difference of Audience

- Mass Communication is for large group of audience.through Television, internet,Radio.

- We can include newspapers in Journalism.because newspapers are for specific audience.A person who can read is able to read newspaper.an illterate person cannot read newspaper.

3. Difference in Academic Point of view

- There may exist difference in courses of Mass communcation and journalism. As Mass communication is specific and Journalism includes all the sources of media.

-Mass communication can be taken as the specialisation of field Journalism.

In future the differences will shrivel because of the rapid growth of Modern Media.
