Post Strategy to prepare Statistics paper

Statistics is very scoring as well as least scoring subject (if not prepared well).
If someone has interest in Statistics, then he/she may opt this subject. One will have to adopt the following strategy to prepare this paper:

1. Memorise the formulas of concerned chapters (list of chapters given at the bottom). For memorising formulas, practice is key to success
2. Learn how to read/use Statistical Tables efficiently
3. Learn efficient way to use good scientific calculator
4. Solve all examples/questions of concerned chapters given in Sher Muhammad Choudhary’s book
5. Memorise/Practice some important derivation questions like “Estimation of Least Squares Estimates” etc.

List of Chapters which cover complete syllabus:

Introduction to Statistical Theory Part-1
By Sher M. Chaudhary & Dr. Shahid Kamal
Chapter # 06
Chapter # 07
Chapter # 08
Chapter # 09
Chapter # 10

Introduction to Statistical Theory Part-2
By Sher M. Chaudhary & Dr. Shahid Kamal
Chapter # 14
Chapter # 15
Chapter # 16
Chapter # 17
Chapter # 18
Chapter # 19
Chapter # 20
Chapter # 21

Dear Muzzamil,

Thank you very much for your guidance above. It is very helpful.

I have completed some of the important chapters from the above list and had a couple of confusions when looking at the past papers and was wondering if you could guide me.

From 2013:
* Q5b) The sample size is small and the population variance is unknown. However, we do not know about the distribution of the population (normal or not). How should such a question be attempted?
* Q6a) This is again a small sample problem about differences of means. I would have used the t-distribution, however, there are two problems: 1) Is the population normal?; 2) Are the population variances equal or unequal? How would you have attempted this question?

So far, I have only looked at this paper. I am sure there are similar questions in the previous papers as well and your help will be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

F.B

Salam,

I'm doing my bachelors in Electrical Engineering and the last time I studied Statistics as a full fledge subject was in A levels. Would you suggest that I take up Statistics as one of optional or no?

Regards

Sir! Are the mentioned chapters enough for CSS stats paper? I mean, is there any need to go for some extra material or these chaps would serve the purpose better? Moreover, how much time would it take to prepare these chaps? Just roughly mention the number of days to be given.
Regards.

The mentioned chapters are enough for CSS paper. The duration of time for preparation depends upon one`s interest/aptitude in the subject. If one has good interest/aptitude in Statistics, he/she may prepare this paper within 3 week.

Muzzammil bhai, you have listed 13 chapters and 21 days for prep. This gives less than 2 days for one chapter. Now, if one has to read the whole chapter and also solve the exercise, do you think 3 weeks would really be enough? Plus, how many hours per day one will have to study to cover Stats in 3 weeks? 8-10 hours?

Thanks
