The genus Plasmodium causes malaria, one of the greatest scourges of humans. Malaria has probably caused more human deaths than any other infectious disease; even today it is estimated to kill a million people a year in the sub-Saharan Africa.

The organism is transmitted from human to human through the bite of mosquitoes of the genus Anopheles.

Amna plasmodium falciparum causes malaria in human.Total 11 species of genus plasmodium are known to cause disease in man, many other species infect birds mammals and reptiles. n yes the disease causing or curing properties both are considered medically important.Do consult your books as i am only refering from my little parasitology knowledge.I am a med student so i've only studied the falciparum specie
