Dear Sana,
There is not a single book which is the best for both papers. however, U may find the best book for paper 1 n 2 individually:
Mazharul Haq's n Sohail Bhatti's books are good for Paper 1 and there is also one best book that is very old named Islam- It's meaning and History - I got photo copied of its sum chapters now I hv forgotten the writer's name- is the best book that I ever read on History but One can hardly find this book in market. I saw this book in Library.
As for paper 2, the book whether of Dr Sultan or of M.D ZAFAR is the best.

Dear,
I took these topics of paper1: Period Before Islam, The Era of Prophet and First two Caliphs, Ummaid Dynasty and Abbaside Dynasty. The Book gave very gud quotations and beautiful words that should be written by a student of History.

@sana... well You should consult Mazhar ul haq's books i.e. A SHORT HISTORY OF ISLAM and A SHORT HISTORY OF MUSLIM SPAIN.. Both these books cover everything there is to study for css, though they would consume a greater amount of time... I have personally been through HISTORY OF THE ARABS by Hitti as well as A SHORT HISTORY OF THE SARACENS by Ameer ali, Yet I would suggest mazhar ul haq's book to you since its very comprehensive and detailed... The other books that are being discussed on the forum are ofcourse good enough, yet they won't give you that deep an insight into the details. I hope this helps U
Islamic history might be a bit intimidating at first but a proper approach could do miracles for You.. Just make a list of all the important topics ( the ones that have been repeatedly asked about in the past papers) and study them thoroughly... I was personally appalled to see all the new topics infront of me in part 2, but when I made a list of all the topics that I had to study for css, they turned out to be lesser than even part 1... What I mean to tell you is that you could easily do away with the unnecessary topics and focus on the ones you feel are more important... save energy, time and Morale

I dont know about mazhar ul haq, but this I can certify to. Both Ameer Ali and PK Hitti are more scholarly and not exactly perfect for examination purposes. I myself studied these for a week or two and realized that I was making too little progress because I had to go an extra mile to extract the right information from the books, especially hitti. I'll try Mazhar ul Haq. From what I know and I've seen, it does seem like more "exam focused".

Yes, I just visited that Library in Larkana when I went there to meet some1 but I m sure it must be available in every old library. That book is very valuable.
In Islamic History and Culture, I got 64 in paper 1n 65 in Paper 2. I could have gained more, If I had not committed any mistake there which I did in one question from each paper.
