Political science or IR ??
AOA.. I'm a Dr and have no back ground knowledge regarding both of these subjects, I want to ask which one should I go for? I have gone through past papers and found IR more interesting but it is lengthy and general at the same time, kindly guide which is better to tackle both study wise and score wise.. thanks

IR....It also covers Current affairs for some extent

IR is a way more travelled by and you'd follow it as well. Political Science is more lengthy that IR. Just consider these points:
Contents of Political Science 1. Fundamentals of Political Science (Concept, epistemology, democracy et al.) 2. Political Systems (Developed & Developing countries) 3. Western Political Philosophy (20+ philosophers) 4. Muslim Political Philosophy(10+ philosophers) 5. Constitutional Development in Pakistan....... Political Science is a less travelled by road and an esoteric subject. The rest depends on your choice. Good luck kid |
Dr sahb if you're going to be comparing the two length wise then Political Science is wayyyyy lengthier than IR. Political Science cannot be done unless you have passion for the subject. IR is more in vogue and yes it helps with Current Affairs too. Go for the one that interests you.

IR is short but comparatively analytical in nature. It is low scoring subject. As a matter of fact in last result there was only one candidate among 6k plus candidates who was able to score 120+. IR will remain low scoring as long as majority of people continue to opt it. Political science is lengthy but less risky subject.

First, decision between IR/Political Science must be made on the basis of one's own interest, aptitude and past papers including syllabus. You must follow your instincts, because some find IR more interesting and less difficult, while for others same could be difficult, less interesting and time taking. Whereas, many individuals find Political Science really interesting and easier while for others its the opposite. So, you should do research from past papers and syllabus. And, if you feel you have interest in IR go for it that will allow you to spend less time in the subject and would give better result, you know why? Second, comparatively, IR is less lengthy then Political Science (check again syllabus of both you will find Political science way more lengthy than you are saying). Plus, it (IR) helps more in your Current Affairs, because of its contemporary portion. And, IR is more about analysis and generalized view that is why candidate with good analytical skills find it easy. While, political Science is more about theories and memorization (Constitutional/political systems part is all about that) To me, as you said you find IR interesting then you should opt it. Rest the ball is in your hand. Hope it helps! |
