I have a query, if I intend to appear in the exam in 2017, I would be following the tax rules pertaining to tax year 2016-17, right?

If so is the case, I think I should wait for the latest version of ITO as amended up to June 30, 2016. Please advise.

Yes, Tax Year shall be 2016-17. Don't wait. Do study if u have time. Normally tax rates change along with few amendments.
