CSP with Computer Science
Do we have any CSP who opt Computer Science and allocated, I have seen several on this forum with good marks in CS but anyhow failed in some other subject. :blink
|
I have never heard or even seen on forum/internet that someone having a degree in Computer Science has passed the exam and been allocated. And I have been thinking of replacing CS with IR as I have lost interest in the former.

Computer Science as an Optional Subject
Computer Science is a high scoring subjects provided you have studied at college/university and have a firm grip on the subject. My elder brother has done BSCS from University of the Punjab, Lahore. He scored 89/100 in 2010 and secured 5th overall. :))

Now the CS paper is of marks 200 and has vast syllabus to cover as compared to what it was back in 2010. It's now been difficult to cover almost everything since its syllabus was changed. |
I scored 83 in paper A and 86 in paper B, 169 in total. I failed in english precis.

CS as an optional
Obviously, CS is not an easy subject and only those with CS academic background opt for this subject. Look at the score of my fellow colleague who has decent score in CS. I believe if you have CS background, go for it. It is better and high scoring option than all other subjects in 200 category such as Accountancy & Auditing, Economics, Political Science & International Relations. The thing that matters is how you attempt it irregardless of its scoring trend in previous years, etc

May be you need to surf more on this forum. You will see plenty of candidates, in fact, CSPs with Computer Science as their optional subject who not only passed but also secured distinction. |

I tried but could not find one. If you come across such a person then do share here about him/her. |

Yes I have seen your dmc of 2016, you scores were appreciable, did you appear in 2017 ? Sent from my H30-U10 using Tapatalk |
my score was 123 in 2016, paper I = 66 and paper II = 57 but i am thinking the same as you are !
i dint appear in 2017 but INSHALLAH i'll appear in 2018
I have never heard or even seen on forum/internet that someone having a degree in Computer Science has passed the exam and been allocated. i dint appear in 2017 but INSHALLAH i'll appear in 2018
I am very confused as to which subject I should go with. Sometimes, I feel like opting CS would be a wise move since it's my subject. But, when I try to consider IR then it feels like it helps me in knowing and understanding the Current Affairs and Pakistan Affairs better because 2017 papers were IR centric. I have planned to appear in CE-2019 but I am having problem making a selection between CS and IR. What do you suggest me? And if you replace CS with IR then on what basis you would make that decision? Please respond. P.S. Did you see the CS paper of 2017 and don't you think it's tougher than 2016's? |

Sent from my H30-U10 using Tapatalk
Neptune Shadow has been teaching for years and probably a gold medalist. We, unlike him, can not fetch that much marks. So, opting CS may not benefit us that much as IR can. But again I am confused that what we are supposed to do of the selection b/w CS and IR. |
I am feeling the same :S confusion confusion

For all Computer Scientist who are confused can contact my mentor Asifr (member CSS forum) at the given link. He'd a brilliant score in Computer Science. Moreover, he's a teaching faculty at Public Service Academy, Lahore (Academy Contact # 0333-3417774). You will feel confident after one meeting. Cheers!

It does not directly answer the question. But same is said for the ones having opted Physics. Maleeha Iesar, the topper of CE-2016, had opted Physics. By analogy, she should not have secured good marks owing to the argument that technical / science subjects like these take too much of time.
Plus, this time, there are a good number of candidates who had opted CS as their optional and still got through. I got this information from a DD in FPSC. My own score of CS in CE-2016 was as follows: Paper l : 69, Paper ll : 74. I failed in Essay. CS is a piece of cake for anyone having a solid background in CS. |

@quantum -> As I was already proficient in many topics mentioned in the syllabus, it took me 15 days or so to prepare for the course, notably the topics I wasn't familiar with or needed quick revision.
I have a BS degree in Electrical Engineering and MS in Computer Science. |

But we, graduates, have to work hard and spend more time in order to get good marks. |
Well, that's more because of my interest in CS. In MS, we only study a few advanced subjects and that's it. That does not even become 20% of the CSS CS syllabus. The CS syllabus is nothing but the whole BS CS degree. And as such should pose no difficulty in preparation. One month time is more than enough.

I get a feel after reading your this comment and the previous ones too that we can also score good marks. In fact, I've downloaded the resources you shared with us, and will go through them as soon as I plan to opt for CS. Actually, I have planned that my CE-19 attempt would be a serious one and till CE-18 exams, I've delayed my decision of making a selection between CS and IR and planned to prepare other optional subjects along with compulsory ones meanwhile. Thank you again for appearing on the forum as your comments may help us make a better decision. |
Of course, he can. But it boils down to your dedication and general interest in CS. CS has a huge syllabus, and it will be great gamble to opt for it without thorough study.
