Default Cs is kind of wierd

I attempted 2005 and 2006 , CS is unpredictable , If examiner is making easy paper its way too easier , if its tough its way too tough . So you have to cover it all
I got 70 + in first , hopefully will get better 2nd time . But the problem is course outline , its too exhaustive , so if examiner is upto failing you (like in 2003) nobody can save you .

anywayz its easier than it looks

I have the outlines with books/ pages marked , alongwith my notes .

you can get them photocopied if you want .

Salam ! I opted for CS in 2005 and without any extra study, I got 68. Btw, I am a software engineer from NUST. I would advise you to go for CS only if you have a degree like BCS or BE software engineering etc.
If you do not have any previous education in CS, you will have to spend a lot of time in going through the syllabus.

Default books

Computer Architecture : Morris Mano (don't remember spellings)

Data Communication :
either William Stalling
or Behroz Ferozen

Operating Systems :
Silberchatz(ch 1-4 , ch 9-11)

Section II
----------
any book for C++ would do , take Dietel and Deitel or Robert Lafore

Algorithms : I left that part , if you want to prepare you can get SAMS series book

Software eng : Pressman : SE : A practitioner's approach

Section III
-----------

Databases : nothing particular , RDBMS theory from Wikipedia , DFD/ERD diagrams from net , normalization from net as well
http://www.utexas.edu/its/windows/da...ng/rm/rm7.html
this link covers much of the DB portion especially normalisation is best desribed here .

Computer graphics : I dont remember the author but its a red colour book taught in every college/univ ,since you're mcs you'd know.

Web programming :
book is not required really , its preliminary web programming , though consult and cgi/jsp book if you want .

Default to afshan

you should start from basic.....
i,e like introduction to computer scienes....
there are many books of this title but my opinion is to study glenn brookshear's book computer|science because it was refferd us in FAST-NU for basics..............
it is my own opinion as a computer science student..

There are a lot of books to be taken for Computer Science if opted. Its better to cover most of the topics from Net or notes (if available). Opting for computer science type of multi dimensional subject could be risky. Think well before selecting it. All the best
