Economics by Samuelson (Core reference book)
International Economics by Stanely Fischer (Covered topics related to international trade and economics)

hi,
i have been hearing that economics, by taking as an optional subject wouldn't have any worth why it is soo?...........i want to take it, suggest me

Well, people discourage to take economics as an optional subject but this is due to their bad experiences. And the reason for such bad experiences are;
They do not prepare with the point of view of attempting it in a CSS paper,
They do not know how to relate theory with the present time economic cenario,
They do not prepare current economic issues,
They do not take care or or give too much to the mathematical part,
or They do not have comprehensive preparations.
And the one who covers these aspects well, can score good marks i believe.

but how to make sure that we are covering all the topics, there isn't one comprehensive book, we'd have to go through so many books with every other topic that is indeed a tough work thats why..............
well lets see and i'm just getting my self prepared.....................

@ Sana Rafique
Well, preparing for CSS we do not rely upon a single book in any subject however comprehensive.
I suggest you better look into the syllabus for Economics, prepare the topics give there in details and the tools or theories of Economics discussed or used in those topics should be covered too. Further, for current economic trends or issues, do read pink pages of Monday Dawn. These are all on economic issues. Do know the growth rates and trends of the economies of many nations.
I have studied Economics for four whole years in my BSc Honors, and before that I had an FSc Pre-medical. So all I knew about Economics was in the last four years. I think you have also studied Economics already. So we should go with the option that we are well familiar with.
Do share if any body gets any problem regarding Economics. I shall be pleased to help you out.

Regards,
Imran Saifi
